Overview

The Email Specialist ll is responsible for the day-to-day, hands-on execution of email communication programs in support of department and business unit objectives. This person will be responsible for testing, scheduling and reporting on emails, leading campaign initiatives and will report to the Email Delivery Strategist. The Email Specialist ll will be required to work closely with a variety of cross-functional teams involved with planning, list segmentation, email creation and client support. As a creative problem solver, this individual will use their extensive understanding of email systems to deploy actionable email tactics to support the various marketing strategies.

Responsibilities

  1. Building and managing email campaigns, database selection, HTML presentation and quality assurance of all email campaigns
  2. Management of testing and deployment process with internal stakeholders to ensure optimization for existing and new campaigns
  3. Perform day-to-day email marketing activities including, but not limited to, email campaign set-up, database management, scheduling, testing, tagging and deployment of one-time, recurring, triggered and dynamic content-driven campaigns, and post campaign metric support
  4. Test and monitor campaigns to ensure consistency across all Nelnet business brands
  5. Troubleshoot technical issues related to HTML, list segmentation, database or automation issues and other aspects of email execution, as required
  6. Assess, maintain, manage, and track multiple projects to ensure due dates, and overall quality is met
  7. Act as a liaison between internal and external clients, business owners, and production teams, as well as other areas as needed
  8. Development and administration of customer surveys, both internal and external, and providing survey results used in business initiatives
  9. Coordinate with analysts or database manager to ensure success of automated campaigns, troubleshoot automation issues as needed
  10. Establish, update, and maintain procedures to enhance efficiencies
  11. Stay up to date on basics of CAN-SPAM compliance and deliverability industry benchmarks
  12. Take on new email initiatives as the business grows and needs arise
  13. Proactively research opportunities to evolve email communications with new functionality and features to make continuous process improvements; identify solutions and communicate necessary steps for implementation
  14. Drive high delivery rates, positive sender reputation, and overall deliverability by demonstrating an overall understanding of systems, processes and strategies that exceed best practices
  15. Implement system process and solutions
  16. Be seen as an email technology expert and recommend new email techniques, compliance and best practices of coding, design and testing of email campaigns
  17. Design materials for email trainings and lead when needed
  18. Provide feedback for list development regarding target populations to ensure the proper demographic and criteria is targeted

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

4-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

EXPERIENCE:

  1. 2+ years dedicated email campaign experience preferably in a multi-channel environment within an enterprise level ESP
  2. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, file transfer programs, and email testing software
  3. 1-2 years of experience with basic HTML a plus
  4. Knowledge of IBM Watson Campaign Automation system or certifications a plus
  5. Salesforce training and knowledge a plus

  6. Attention to detail and proofreading skills with the ability to make recommendations as needed
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively work with team members, clients, customers and business contacts with a high degree of professionalism
  8. Experience with CRM systems, integrations, and features
  9. Understanding of optimization testing techniques and additional features such as, but not limited to, send time optimization, dynamic content, social sharing, and multi-level reporting
  10. Excellent understanding of database management, concepts, queries, and segmentation and ability to define and recommend queries and define audience segments based on client goals
  11. Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills
