This candidate will be an integral part of a high performing team with a particular focus on the federal and state income tax compliance of Nelnet and its multiple joint ventures. 


This position requires work in support of the Company's contract with the United States Department of Education (œED).  As such, the United States Government requires that any applicant for this position must complete United States Government security clearance.  Effective June 1, 2018, ED has informed Nelnet that security clearance applications for foreign nationals are not being accepted or processed.  In light of this direction from ED, Nelnet will be unable to hire applicants without United States citizenship for such positions. 


  1. Prepare federal and state income tax filings and supporting documentation
  2. Assist with international compliance efforts
  3. Provide assistance related to income tax examinations
  4. Assist with tax incentive calculations including research and development studies
  5. Conduct occasional tax research and planning
  6. Assist with the overall administration of Nelnet's tax and financial reporting policies



Bachelor's Degree required in Accounting or Business Administration with an emphasis in Taxation.  Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Track - Preferred



2+ years of tax compliance and return preparation experience in a public accounting firm, tax research & planning experience, and a good general knowledge of GAAP.  Multi-state tax preparation experience is preferred.

  7. Teamwork: able and willing to support the tax team in a variety of projects.  
  8. Extensive Microsoft Excel experience: utilizing a variety of functions.
