Overview

Responsible for systems architecture, front and backend development, and deployment of websites and online applications across Nelnet clients. Works as part of a team to develop innovative interactive strategies by incorporating web design, mobile, and other interactive applications.

Responsibilities

  1. Produces bold, strategic, persuasive, branded messages in all interactive media.
  2. Develops systems architecture for websites, mobile applications, and other emerging technologies as needed by Nelnet clients.
  3. Capable of troubleshooting across known code languages, and assists teammates and project managers with issues as they arise.
  4. Communicates needs and ensures proper setup of web environments for testing and deployment by IT partner teams, and facilitates ongoing maintenance and requests.
  5. Develops, oversees and influences processes used by the development team related to version control, code quality, and deployment.
  6. Lead maintenance efforts, including scheduling and QA of system updates, remediating security vulnerabilities, and suggesting innovations.
  7. Lead efforts towards website performance optimizations.
  8. Involved in the hiring of, and manager for, associate developers.
  9. Provide input and review of estimates for web development projects.
  10. Checks concepts against the creative brief to ensure it meets strategic goals and objectives.
  11. Collaborates with creative writers, UX designers, and other team members who may share responsibility on specific projects.
  12. Keeps up on latest web development news and technologies and shares that information with team, adjusting processes as needed to ensure best practices are followed and the right technologies are used.
  13. Adheres to schedules and budgets.
  14. Design and develop web projects to meet Section 508 Compliance.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

 

EXPERIENCE:

8+ years of experience in website development.  Client presentation experience required.

 

COMPETENCIES SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

  1. Actively learns about and applies new design/web trends and skills across a variety of channels.
  2. Proficient with applications across the Adobe Web Creative Suite and can assist other team members in using these programs.
  3. Proficient with creating custom, standards compliant, highly organized WordPress themes and plugins to meet the unique challenges presented by individual client needs.
  4. Fluent with standards compliant HTML/HTML5, CSS/SASS, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, and server environments.
  5. Takes pride in high quality code creation and organization that evolves alongside the web, and continually looks to expand skills to bring the best to projects.
  6. Have at least a basic understanding of Section 508 Compliance, tools to use for testing websites, and be able to implement changes to meet standards.
