Overview

This position is responsible for performing and supporting various tax department functions including fixed asset reporting and sales and use tax compliance. 

Responsibilities

  1. Maintain fixed asset modules for various Nelnet companies:
    1. Administer Nelnet's fixed asset policy
    2. Calculate depreciation on monthly basis (Internal, Tax, and State)
    3. Record depreciation and reconcile reporting to Nelnet's financial statements
    4. Provide support to various internal customers regarding fixed assets
  2. Responsible for sales and use tax compliance
  3. Preparation of periodic reconciliations, correspondence, and various other information reports
  4. Assist with various tax incentive filings
  5. Assist with various accounting responsibilities of new venture investments
  6. Prepare personal property tax filings
  7. Perform occasional research projects and assist with the overall administration of Nelnet's tax policy

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Associates Degree Required (Bachelor's Degree Preferred) in Accounting or Business.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  1. 2 years of finance, tax or accounting experience
  2. Extensive Microsoft Excel experience

  1. Strong Organizational Skills: able to organize large amounts of data and present in a meaningful and concise manner.
  2. Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  3. Effective Communicator: Able and willing to communicate with associates and individuals outside the organization, both verbally and in writing.
  4. Independent self-starter.
  5. Possesses excellent judgment and analytical skills, with an ability to follow tasks through completion.
  6. Exhibits positive energy, drive and pride in your work.
  7. Teamwork: able and willing to support the tax team in a variety of projects.  
  8. Extensive Microsoft Excel experience: utilizing a variety of functions.
