Overview

We are looking for an IT Director to drive technical strategy in concert with delivering on product functionality deliverables. We provide solutions to process every payment on campus for institutions of higher education. The teams that this position oversees are responsible for electronic billing and payment processing, payment plans, cashiering solutions, student refund processing, and an online store product. Maintaining secure, accurate and compliant solutions is essential. In addition, we believe in continuous improvement so we are looking for an individual that can provide direction and support on improving how we work. Someone who is intrigued and challenged by the complexity of the future and can position the team to be successful in the short-term with the resources available while also positioning for the future. The ideal candidate has experience with Java and with working in an Agile environment.

  1. Define strategic IT plans aimed at striking an optimum balance of technology opportunities and business goal alignment and investment.
  2. Cascade strategy into long and short range plans setting clear and concrete objectives.
  3. Oversee performance and development of functional managers and teams to deliver timely, high quality projects to our customers/market that align with our product strategy and vision.
  4. Develop and maintain annual staffing and staff development plans. Establish measurable and achievable results for members of staff. Connect associates and their work to larger processes that impact customers.
  5. Hire/retain strong leaders and technical experts that will contribute to future growth via managing data security and integrity and software development best practices
  6. Structure resources to enable reasonable work/life balance
  7. Develop and maintain annual department budget
  8. Promote close collaboration with all technology providers within Nelnet and external entities
  9. Act as a personal champion of Nelnet goals
  10. Provide regular reporting to peer organizations, company directors and board.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist in defining strategic IT plans aimed at striking an optimum balance of information technology opportunities and business goal alignment & investment.
  2. Cascade into long and short range plans setting clear and concrete objectives.
  3. Oversee performance and development of functional managers and project managers who are responsible for the results produced by a direct report team as well as a large matrix team of technology professionals.
  4. Develop and maintain annual staffing and staff development plans. Establish measurable and achievable results for members of staff. Connect associates and their work to larger processes that impact customers.
  5. Attract and retain the best people. Lead a team of diverse individuals and leverage their skills for optimal results.
  6. Structure resources to enable reasonable work/life balance.
  7. Develop and maintain annual department budget.
  8. Promote close collaboration with all technology providers within Nelnet and external entities. Act as a personal champion of Nelnet goals.
  9. Provide regular reporting to peer organizations, company directors and board.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (MBA preferred) and/or commensurate experience.

 

EXPERIENCE:

10+ years IT experience with 5 - 10 years in a management position.  Experience should include IT planning, governance and system development.

  5. Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, analytical and communication skills.
  6. Good negotiation and persuasion skills.
  7. Must be flexible and motivated to work in a fast-paced environment.
