GENERAL PURPOSE AND DUTIES: Including, but not limited to: Research, collect, and analyze laws, judicial decisions, legal articles and other relevant materials to assist in case preparation. Assist with writing legal memoranda, drafts, opinions, etc. in all types of court matters. Assist attorney in preparation for court, civil, and legal proceedings. May conduct arraignments, hearings, trials, etc. under the direct supervision of a deputy public defender with proper law student certification.. Establish effective working relationships.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience: A) Bachelor’s Degree. B) MUST be a CURRENT student at an accredited Law School and be a 2nd year law school student Fall 2018. B) Legal experience preferred.
KSA’s: Including, but not limited to: Working knowledge of the legal system; Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software (e.g. WordPerfect, Excel, Word, etc.); Working knowledge of on-line legal research services (e.g. Westlaw); Working knowledge of office practices and procedures; Considerable research and investigative skills; Effective planning and organizational skills; Well-developed communication skills; Ability to interact with diverse client base, including, but not limited to one-on-one meetings; Ability to carry out assigned projects to completion; Ability to understand and follow instructions; Ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions; Ability to prioritize work duties; Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing; Ability to operate listed office equipment.

LOCATION AND HOURS OF WORK: Public Defender’s Office, 1208 Golden Gate Drive, Papillion, NE 68046. Temporary position. Hours to be determined based upon school schedule (typically day shift).
WAGE: $13.50 per hour.
