With a total enrollment of 50 students, an exceptionally positive and cohesive team of teachers and education support staff, in a safe, secure, building, 186 teacher work days, student population chosen (by administration) from area referrals- education professionals have time to devote to individual students and their needs.

Teachers and educational support staff have time to develop professional relationships with the students and their caretakers.  This is the key to success of the Heartland program. 

Teachers and staff have time to explore professional development opportunities, take classes, plan, research, and prepare for their students while receiving the same full time benefits without the extra duties of their education colleagues in other schools. 

Heartland Administration and Board of Directors hope to continue to build and maintain the expert level of knowledge to provide at-risand special needs students all that they need and deserve in as little time as possible. 

All of this is done to meet one of the requirements  Heartland teachers and staff are charged with providing which is to ultimately lessen the effects of an out of school placement on the students and caretakers, allowing them to return to their homeschools with the skills needed to be successful.

What is Heartland School?

 

Heartland School is a Nebraska Department of Education Level III Service Provider that offers a rich and engaging educational experience to students K-12. 

With a total enrollment of 50 students Heartland School is able to attend to students in a therapeutic and enriching environment that encourages, sanctions, and allocates time for teachers and staff to get to know each of the students, their needs, how to assist them, and how to overcome deficits and capitalize on their strengths.   

There is the time to work with the students.  There is the time to work with the parents and guardians without extracurricular expectations and large class sizes to contend with.  

Generally, issues can be addressed quicker, plans can be arranged and services can be offered all in the hopes of returning the students back to the regular home school environment without the loss of too much of a student’s precious time lost.

Salary and Benefits

With a base salary of $37,402.00 pay is commensurate with experience and education.

General Information

  • Full Time Position, Self-Contained Multi-Age, Multi- Grade Classroom
     
  • 186 Day Contract
     
  • Hours: 8:00-3:30 P.M. Monday through Friday with an occasional need to stay later for IEP meetings and Parent Teacher Conferences
     
  • Bachelor’s Degree and Nebraska Teaching certification required – Elementary Education or Secondary Education or both
     
  • Nebraska Special Education Endorsement preferred
     
  • Master’s Degree preferred

Duties and Expectations
The Teacher Will Demonstrate Instructional Skills and Strategies.

  • Knows and uses information about students’ prior knowledge, issues, and challenges in planning lessons.
  • Plans lessons that provide readiness, engagement, and closure.
  • Plans for incremental steps in learning when appropriate.
  • Provides on-going feedback to students
  • Paces lessons appropriately.
  • Incorporates technology into lessons when available and appropriate.
  • Assesses student learning in order to help the learner be more successful.
  • Asks questions that require varied levels of thinking.
  • Encourages students to develop independent work habits.
  • Encourages students to develop the ability to work in a group setting.

The Teacher Creates a Climate Which Is Supportive and Emotionally and Physically Safe and Promotes Learning. The Teacher
Behaves in a nurturing, sensitive, accepting, and caring manner.

  • Creates an environment that is stimulating and motivating.
  • Is child-centered.
  • Fosters independence and individuality.
  • Deals with students in a way that preserves student dignity.
  • Fosters an atmosphere where all students participate.

The Teacher Focuses On Learning For All Students. The Teacher:

  • Is willing to make appropriate curriculum modifications and adaptations.
  • Diagnoses individual student skills and objectives based on that diagnosis.
  • Plans evaluation consistent with objectives.
  • Establishes appropriate academic standards.
  • Makes students aware of individual objectives.
  • Considers different learning styles of students when presenting lessons.
  • Provides a variety of learning activities

The Teacher Demonstrates Classroom Management and Organization. The Teacher:

  • Develops and communicates appropriate rules and standards of behavior
  • Holds students accountable for established rules and standards of behavior.
  • Plans for classroom activities.
  • Monitors and responds appropriately to student behavior.
  • Provides an environment which emphasizes time on task- and assists students with difficulties in staying on task
  •  Is mobile in the classroom.
  • Acknowledges positive behavior.
  • Works with parents, school officials, and all concerned parties on concerns about student behavior.
  • Works to solve student behavior problems and involves appropriate support staff when necessary.

The Teacher Demonstrates Professional Conduct Which Promotes Learning. The Teacher:

  • Fulfills responsibilities and duties in a timely and professional manner.
  •  Demonstrates a willingness to keep curriculum and instructional practices current through participation in and / or implementation of best practices.
  •  Responds professionally to parental, staff, student, and all concerned party issues.
  •  Communicates academic progress to parents, school officials, and all concerned parties.
  • Encourages and supports school sponsored activities which enrich the school learning environment.
  • Uses and develops curriculum that meets the unique needs of the assigned students.
