NORS is currently searching for a qualified Organ Recovery Coordinator.

 

Position DescriptionThe Organ Recovery Coordinator is responsible for all areas of the organ recovery and preservation of organs for transplantation and research including labeling, packaging, and transportation of organs.  The Organ Recovery Coordinator will work with the Clinical Coordinator to verify all necessary documentation and blood specimens have been obtained prior to organ procurement in accordance with NORS policies and applicable standards/regulations. 

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Surgical Technology program and/or Associates Degree with a concentration in healthcare preferred with two years’ experience in a clinical setting.
  • Two or more years of operating room experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Essential Job Functions:

  • Must participate in a rotating call schedule of 24-hour work shifts. 
  • Represents NORS professionally and provides excellent customer service to all contacts including donor families, donor hospital staff, medical examiners, funeral home personnel and the general public.
  • Assist with organ donor case initiation to ensure blood and tissue typing specimen documentation is accurate and sent to appropriate laboratories.
  • Provides support with research organ allocation.
  • Assist with coordinating transportation for surgical recovery team(s). 
  • Stocks and maintains appropriate levels of organ procurement supplies.  Prepares and obtains all necessary supplies that will be used during organ procurement.

  • Works with the Clinical Coordinator to verify all necessary documentation and blood specimens have been obtained prior to organ procurement in accordance with NORS policies and applicable standards/regulations.

  • Provides organ procurement supplies and instrumentation to the OR staff and assists with proper setup of the operating room.

  • Sets up perfusion tubing and performs in-situ flush of the organ systems during organ procurement in accordance with NORS policies and applicable standards/regulation.

  • Documents and maintains organ perfusion, preservation, and anatomical data and documentation in accordance with NORS policies and applicable standards/regulations.

  • Perform recovery of organs for research purposes.

  • Performs and verifies appropriate packaging and labeling of all organs, blood and tissue typing specimens in accordance with NORS policies and applicable standards/regulations.

  • Assist with performing and obtaining all necessary photography and videography that is necessary during organ procurement.

  • Set up and assist with transport of procured organs to appropriate individuals or couriers.

  • Cleans and maintains supply areas and equipment associated with organ preservation per NORS policies and applicable standards/regulations.

  • Assists with obtaining post organ procurement donor information to include, but not limited to, hospital cultures.
