Job Description

Job Title: Office Assistant/Cashier

Position Supervisor: Vice President of Operations

Job Summary: Is responsible for assisting in company operations by maintaining office systems, providing a high standard of customer service along with office duties. Works directly with Vice President of Operations


Essential Functions:

  1. Maintains office services by organizing office operations and procedures controlling correspondence; filing systems; reviewing supply requisition; monitoring clerical functions

  2. Accepts incoming telephone calls, takes messages, and schedules customer and vendor pickups/deliveries

  3. Acts as a cashier by paying customers via check or cash

  4. Counts drawer and safe daily to account for cash on hand

  5. Calls in change orders

  6. Handles the timely payment of monthly bills and invoices

  7. Maintains office efficiency by implementing office systems, layouts, and equipment procurement.

  8. Implements office policies by maintaining standards and procedures; adjusting to necessary standards..

  9. Is responsible to responding to training techniques, planning, coaching, monitoring and appraising job results

  10. Communicates with staff, vendors and customers.


Other Job Functions/expectations:


  1. Keeps management informed of any arising employee or customer issues.

  2. Participates as a team member.

  3. Demonstrates positive attitude toward Scrap Central customers, staff and company.

  4. Complete all assigned tasks in a timely manner.

  5. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies

  6. Other responsibilities as assigned.

  7. Helps to create spreadsheets and demonstrates creative solutions in areas needed.


Required Skills/Physical abilities:

  1. Demonstrated customer service skills including exceptional phone etiquette.

  2. Demonstrated efficiency in helping to develop organizational systems and business processes.

  3. Ability to multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced environment

  4. Ability to work independently as necessary.

  5. Ability to understand complex written and oral instructions.

  6. Excellent typing, grammar, spelling and math skills

  7. Excellent open communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of employee, vendor and customer.

  8. Proficient in Microsoft/Libre Word, Excel and other Office programs
