Title:  Grants Manager                               

Departments: Development                    

This position reports to: Vice President, Development

Hours: Full-time; 40 hours/week

Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm                 

                                                                       

Purpose of Position: 

The Grants Manager is responsible for all aspects of raising financial support from foundations, corporations, and government sources requiring proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the full range of activities required to prepare, submit and manage grant proposals from individuals, foundation and corporate sources
  • Write all proposals, prepare budgets, reports, and other ancillary materials
  • Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors
  • Develop and foster relationships with institutional funders
  • Arrange for tours on site, make appointments for President and CEO, VP Development, and others with potential funders
  • Provide stewardship for existing donors and cultivation for new donors 
  • Manage existing grants by: tracking grants; developing internal reporting systems, writing reports, maintaining excellent historical records, working with staff to ensure each project or program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations
  • Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting
  • Manage a large donor portfolio to accommodate a multi-million dollar organizational budget     
  • Monitor and manage grants income goal
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested

Position Qualifications: Education, Experience, Certification, and Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

 

Required

  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors
  • Proven track record with institutional donors
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Excellent computer skills with all Microsoft Office programs. Experience with Lotus Notes and Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge 7 preferred
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospects
  • Experience with budget development and monitoring
  • Experience in program development
  • Knowledge of grant contracts and agreements
  • Strong editing skills; meticulous grammar and spelling
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or a combination of relevant experience and education
  • Minimum of five years’ experience with grant writing and management 
  • Proven track record on raising money from foundation/government sources
  • Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
  • Able to monitor and meet fundraising income goals
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising 
  • Program development experience preferred
  • Previous experience with capital campaigns preferred  
  • Show compassion toward all animals and a desire to help them

  • The noise level in the office environment is usually quiet, though barking or whining of animals may be escalated at certain times in certain areas of the building.High exposure to animals whose reactions to the shelter environment cannot be predicted.
  • Temperatures in the shelter environment are varied, though usually moderate, and dependent on the season. 
  • Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases and hazardous chemicals.
  • Ability to work around animals without severe allergic reactions.
