JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Lead Accountant, posts payments from borrowers on loan accounts, enters payment and rate information into the loan accounting application, generates statements and performs a variety of accounting tasks. While experience in loan servicing is preferred, we will consider capable and motivated professionals without this experience and provide appropriate on-the-job training. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Posts payments received from borrowers daily; verifies that ACH payments are applied accurately to borrower accounts; reconciles cash receipts daily
  • Initiates electronic payments (ACH) from multiple borrowers’ accounts; set up new ACH information into the loan accounting system and ACH calendar
  • Tracks escrow and suspense payments and disbursements for borrowers and ensures timely payments
  • Loan boarding into loan accounting application upon new loan pool purchase
  • Booking and balancing loan restructures
  • Generates and distributes loan account statements to Account Officers daily
  • Performs a variety of accounting tasks, including answering internal questions and assisting with month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing activities as directed
  • Processes returned checks or ACH’s
  • Provides loan payoff details to Account Officers upon request
  • Updates changes to loan interest rates into the loan accounting application
  • Completes weekly reconciliations of bank accounts to general ledger
  • Keeps a daily log of loan payoffs and large dollar cash receipts

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Associates degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in accounting or bookkeeping; experience in loan accounting preferred
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks highly preferred
  • Familiarity with loan servicing/accounting software preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Forward thinker with strong attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with a professional demeanor
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to identify and analyze issues to get to root cause and prevent future recurrences
  • Ability to analyze current processes and procedures for maximum efficiency and/or improvements
