Child Care Assistant

The Bennington Public Schools Foundation School-Age Child Care Program, All Star Kids, is currently hiring for Child Care Assistants to work part-time, Monday through Friday during our school year program!

Hours Available: 6:15am-8:15am & 2:45pm-6:00pm, Monday-Friday.

*Must be available to work all afternoon shifts*

All candidates must be at least 16 years of age and have reliable transportation. Previous experience in child care is preferred! All employees must complete the Nebraska Child Abuse & Neglect Register, The Nebraska Adult Abuse Central Registry, as well as a complete background check.

Child Care Assistant Job Description
Child Care Assistants report directly to the All Star Kids Assistant Site Directors, Site Directors, and Program Director. The Child Care Assistant position is a part-time position, requiring no more than a 25 hour time commitment each week.

Job Summary
Assists with the supervision of all children in the All Star Kids Program. Assists with the daily planned activities of the program as well as preparation and clean up of said activities. Assists with set up and clean up of morning and/or afternoon snack. Establishes and maintains open communication with staff, school employees, parents, and children. Job expectations of the position are governed by the policies and procedures as stated in the BPSF All Star Kids Employee Handbook and/or as mandated by BPSF All Star Kids Administration. Child Care Assistants report to Site Directors, Assistant Directors, and the Program Director.

Knowledge of:

  • Age and developmentally appropriate activities for children.
  • Strong leadership skills.

Ability to:

  • Interact with children of various ages and abilities in a positive and appropriate manner.
  • Understand and follow protocol for various emergency procedures.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of appropriate communications, documents, and transactions.
  • Perform job duties efficiently while managing frequent interruptions.
  • Plan and organize work, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, district employees, board members, and All Star Kids staff.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to various groups including children, parents, and district employees.
  • Work all scheduled on-site hours during the school year and over the summer program. Must be available to work year-round with minimal interruption from various activities (ex: school activities, sports, etc).
  • Maintain good work habits, including punctuality and attendance.
  • Function in various work settings, including gymnasiums, outdoor play areas, field trips, school buses, swimming pools, etc.

Skills in:

  • Negotiation and persuasion techniques.
  • Active Listening.
  • Problem solving and decision making.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.

Essential Job Functions
All Star Kids Program Development and Site Management:

  • Assists in maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy environment in accordance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Assists with setting up and clean up of snack/art time.
  • Assists with the preparation and clean up of activities at the site.
  • Understands and is able to execute various emergency procedures as trained.
  • Responds promptly to inquiry and complaints from All Star Kids employees and district staff.
  • Assists as needed and directed by the Site Director, Assistant Director, and Program Director.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Site Director, Assistant Director, and Program Director.

Supervises and Interacts with Children at All Star Kids:

  • Ensures constant and appropriate level of supervision of children by assisting in overseeing, monitoring, and directing the activities of children.
  • Actively participates in site activities as appropriate and provides positive guidance to children.
  • Establishes and maintains open communication with parents, staff, and children in a respectful manner.
  • Assists with behavior sheets, write-ups, and accident reports but does not communicate these incidents to parents/guardians-leaves this up to the Site Directors and Assistant Directors.
  • Provides appropriate care for children who become ill, are injured, or are upset.

In-Service Training Requirements:

  • Attends 12 hours of in-service training on an annual basis (January 1st- December 31st) depending on how many hours they are scheduled to work.
