Job Description


Directly supervise and coordinate all sawing operations. In addition, the Saw Foreman provides leadership and is responsible for safety, scheduling, workforce planning, coordinating, supervising and assisting in cost control; by performing the following duties.


Please note: Work may be away from home requiring overnight stays possibly a week at a time or longer with various working hours including nights.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Coordinate all saw dimensions and locations prior to start of each day’s work;
  • Ensure highest quality of all saw joints, both in line and depth;
  • Establish backup plan to overcome equipment failures and severe weather conditions;
  • Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely;
  • Assist in accident investigation;
  • Responsible and accountable for the safety of the crews under his/her direction;
  • Oversees and coordinates the activities of field employees while assessing competency of the capabilities and needs of the crew;
  • Maintains employee time and production reporting and equipment time for the week;
  • Accountable for following project plans and schedules, ensuring that crews perform activities to meet production and quality requirements of the job. Identifies needs and deficiencies in the schedule and communicates these to the appropriate people;
  • Reviews and adjusts specific workforce activities and task schedules to meet established production schedules;
  • Requests procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules;
  • Confers with supervisory personnel to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.


Education and/or Experience:

A High School diploma or GED; and at least 3 years in heavy highway construction with knowledge of saw projects and coordination of work.


Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, interpret and accurately obtain necessary information from related source documents/data such as design plans and specifications, and other reference materials. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of contractors, customers, and the general public.


Bilingual skills helpful.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to apply general mathematical operations to tasks listed in Essential Duties & Responsibilities and other Qualifications.


Reasoning Ability:

Must be able to define problems, collect data, evaluate resource documents, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply common sense understanding in order to deal with problems involving several concrete variables


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to use an iPad preferred.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must have a valid NE drivers’ license, a good driving record and be insurable under the company’s insurance program.


Other Qualifications:

Ability to read drawings and interpret specifications for the project. Leadership skills are required. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Must be a self-starter. Must have an excellent attention to detail. Must be provide guidance and support in the development of others. Must have a good attendance record. Previous equipment management experience necessary.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands, and fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to navigate construction stages and landscape of a project.


Work Environment:

The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot and cold weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is usually very load in the field. Work may be away from home requiring overnight stays possibly a week at a time or longer. This is a non-smoking campus and facility.


Condition of Employment:

Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements. Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment. This also applies to all transfers, fit-for-duty and return to work programs.
