Drives a truck equipped with a dump body to transport and dump loose materials, such as sand, gravel, crushed rock or paving materials by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
Drives dump truck to destination applying commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering vehicle in difficult situations.
Secures loads using tarps.
Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition.
Maintains driver log according to DOT regulations.
Inspect truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil and water. May perform emergency roadside repairs, such as changing tires or tire chains
Assists workers in loading and unloading truck.
Must crawl in and out of truck box to clean out, oil box and pull construction tarp.
Must observe and practice safety standards and policies of the department.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence to carry out basic instructions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: ust have a current Class B CDL with a good driving record. Must have previous driving experience handling large trucks. An understanding of the Safety Rules & Regulations of the industry required.
Other Skills and Abilities: Must be able to work according to seasonal and order demand schedule.
Other Qualifications: The employee will travel about 60% of the time. This will include securing product, loading and unloading product and cleaning the truck box.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. This is a physically demanding job that regularly requires the employee to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; talk or hear. The employee must be able to pull or lift heavy tarping materials. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is regularly exposed to construction driving conditions, moving mechanical parts; and maintaining the truck box by cleaning and oiling the box. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This is a non-smoking environment and facility.
Condition of Employment: Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements. Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment. This also applies to all transfers, fit-for-duty and return to work programs.
