Position Summary:

Operate motor grader to perform complex finishing and grading operations on roadway. Must understand grades and have a knowledge of plans and drawings and overall road construction by performing the following duties.

 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Operate motor grading equipment and machines according to job standards;
  • Abide by company safety program and policies, while performing duties safely;
  • Perform inspections on equipment, provides diagnosis, and performs maintenance of the equipment.
  • Meet the obligations under the Workplace Health and Safety Act and the Environmental Protection Act;
  •  Adhere to safety standards established by the company;
  • Operate other equipment as required;
  • Must observe and practice safety standards and policies of the department;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills:  Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence to carry out basic instructions. 

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid NE Driver’s License with a good driving record is preferred.  Previous construction equipment experience is preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities:  Must be able to work according to seasonal and order demand schedule.

 

Other Qualifications:   Must be able to secure equipment, loading and unloading equipment and cleaning the equipment.

 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time; use feet, hands and fingers, to handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms to operate equipment. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Occasionally will use a shovel to move material.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  The employee may be required to work a 12 hour shift, and during busy season the position may be required to work 5 to 6 days a week

 

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is regularly exposed to construction driving conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  This is a non-smoking environment and facility.

 

Condition of Employment: Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements.  Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment.  This also applies to all transfers, fit-for-duty and return to work programs.
