Responsible for smoothing out, leveling and finishing freshly poured concrete at job or construction sites. Perform repairs
on cures concrete to conform to specifications
by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
Operates a screed to level freshly placed concrete according to grade and depth specification.
Finish concrete surfaces using either a hand trowel, long handled “bull float” or powered float.
Cut joints/grooves in concrete with edging tools to help control cracking.
Apply hardening and sealing components to cure surfaces.
Monitor the wind, heat and cold as it affects the curing of the concrete.
Inspect tools, equipment and supplies, to assure safety and performance.
Meet the obligations under the Workplace Health and Safety Act and the Environmental Protection Act. Adhere to safety standards established by the company.
When needed, assist work crews with concrete forms and in construction and maintenance activities including quality control.
Must observe and practice safety standards and policies of the department.
Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), preferred, but not necessary. Preferred two (2) years experience in finishing concrete work which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence to carry out basic instructions. Must speak and read English.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must have a current valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Employee must be able to safely operate tools necessary to perform the position duties. Must be able to work according to seasonal and order demand schedule. Must understand occupational hazards and standards of safety precautions necessary in the work environment.
Must have good vision, stamina, good hand / eye co-ordination and an ability to estimate size and dimensions. Must have demonstrated skills in finishing freshly placed concrete, applying surface treatments and restoring concrete surfaces.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. This is a physically demanding job that regularly requires the employee to stand; walk; bend; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift heavy objects about 50 pounds to chest height. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. Employee is required to do general concrete labor with forms and shovel when needed. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment while performing the job.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system: fumes, odors, dust or close ventilation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements. Must be able to work different shifts and overtime according to designated schedules. This is a non-smoking campus and facility.
