Job Description


The CAD Designer position is an in-house drafting and design position that results in the creation, update, and maintenance of engineering and manufacturing documentation and their corresponding electronic files.  It involves interaction with all departments within REI, although the main responsibility is that of Engineering Support.

Primary Duty

The primary duty of this position is the creation and/or modifying existing documentation used throughout the company to assemble, test, configure, or install electronic equipment, cabling, and metal enclosures.  The work involves technical construction documentation, manufacturing processes and procedures, customer reference materials, and design development.

Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Creating and maintaining manufacturing build prints and BOMs, test procedures, system diagrams, PCB fabrication documentation, schematics, customer specification sheets, and equipment installation diagrams.
  • Understanding and following current documentation revision procedures established within the company.
  • Utilize company ERP software for tracking support documentation, project management, and time.
  • Partner with engineering department to aid in the development of new products or modification of existing products based on customer needs.
  • Partner with sales department, as necessary, to develop customer specific documentation and reference materials.
  • Partner with marketing department, as necessary, to develop and strengthen marketing materials for sales opportunities.Top of Form

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but may serve as a coach or mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Hours of work are expected to coincide with the Company’s normal business hours, Monday-Friday.

Required Education and Experience to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma or GED required.  Secondary education or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Experience using CAD software, 2D and/or 3D; AutoCAD and/or Solid Edge preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.  PowerPoint and photo editing is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of electronics, circuit design, and/or manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Time management skills, including being a self-starter, being able to prioritize multiple projects/assignments, and work within given deadlines.
  • Attention to details.  Above average accuracy in work performed.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Team oriented.
