Currently, we are seeking a talented Sr. Operational Risk Management Analyst to join the Corporate Division in Newport Beach, CA. The Corporate Division supports the goals and initiatives of all other divisions throughout the company and its subsidiaries. These departments include: Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, Corporate Development, Public Affairs, Safety & Security, Legal & Compliance.

The primary goal of operational risk management (ORM) is to help the business manage risk of loss resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes and controls, people, systems or external events.  This new role will play an integral part in the execution of the ORM program at Pacific Life.  This is an opportunity for an experienced risk management professional to bring their expertise to help the ORM program grow and continue to embed it into the culture at Pacific Life.

This position will report directly to the Director, Operational Risk Management within the Corporate ERM department.  This position is expected to be an enterprise-wide subject matter expert on ORM.

Responsibilities include:

Coordinate with professional colleagues to identify risks and assess potential financial, reputational and operational impacts
Maintaining the business process universe to accurately reflect the lines of business and support functions
Executing and documenting business process-level risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs)
Analyzing and tracking operational events and related root causes
Helping define and maintain key risk indicators
Liaising on third-party risk with in-house contract owners and SMEs
Tracking action plans and monitoring their completion
Embedding effective risk and control culture

The ORM program at Pacific Life is owned by Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), and implemented through a network of colleagues across the divisional lines of business. Working with these teams, the duties include:
 
Collaborating on new policies and standards
Participating in working groups on specific ORM topics (for example fraud prevention & detection, data management and governance, implementation of new integrated risk platform/GRC)
Preparing reporting to divisional operational risk committee and ERM

FACTORS FOR SUCCESS
 
5+ years relevant operational risk management experience
Holds self and others accountable to meet commitments
Courageous in supporting ORM program and Pacific Life company principles, avoiding workarounds; saying what needs to be said
Ability to quickly distill and prioritize complex information across a diverse variety of tasks, seek and incorporate new ideas and opinions, and clearly express inclusive solutions to business problems
Strong collaborator, involving others in solving problems that affect them, and ability to challenge conventional practices and innovate
Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with diverse groups of stakeholders
Strong verbal communication and presentation skills, including active listening, and the ability to make meaningful contributions to team discussions, taking the lead where appropriate
Expert (and fast) written communication and analysis skills (utilizing MS Office Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
Experience in working with related systems is an advantage, specifically RSA Archer
General knowledge of life insurance and/or retirement solution products is an advantage, or experience from another financial services organization, or a big-4 public accounting firm
