Job Description

Currently, we are seeking a talented Vice President, Actuary to join Pacific Life in Aliso Viejo, CA. Reporting to the Life Insurance Divisions CFO, you will help drive the divisions financial strategy; actuarial process improvement and innovation; advise senior leadership team on related actuarial matters; analyze industry trends and competition; work with other actuarial leaders to develop the divisions actuarial talent; and lead the actuarial strategy for the divisions financial, reinsurance, valuation and modeling teams.

Specifically, you will:
Lead ALM and hedging programs to meet needs of product portfolios and balance growth with risk adjusted return and capital requirements of the product portfolios
Lead multi-disciplinary group focused on establishing a delivery process for Assumption updates
Partner with Division CFO, CRO and head of product design to implement best practices for risk selection/modeling, segmentation, and pricing for each product line
Lead the development of valuation and risk segmentation strategies for multiple distribution channels
Assess the adequacy of valuation and modeling tools and strategy
Set priorities for actuaries, predictive modeling and research, evaluate R&D and M&A and coordinate informative inputs (from pricing actuaries, predictive modelers, claims, and R&D) to reach best in class data that will be leveraged for pricing/valuation as appropriate
Partner with the Company Chief Actuary and senior actuarial forum.  Work with other senior division actuaries to ensure the Life Division has the appropriate level of representation on committees and projects
Align with enterprise standards of practice for the development, implementation, and updating of models for all product lines, considering targets for profitability and emergence of profits
Recommend target profit, shape of charges, and VNB margins consistent with overall goals
Monitor overall health of the inforce in line with our financial and strategic objectives
Aggregate macro, internal (e.g., client), and product/feature-specific insights to inform future finance strategy for investments, valuation, and reinsurance

Ability to work successfully in a matrix environment
15+ years of experience in life insurance industry with progressive responsibilities in product design, risk management, valuation and/or financial reporting
Working knowledge of life insurance products (UL, IUL, VUL, COLI, Term, GUL etc.)
Bachelor degree in actuarial science, risk management, mathematics, or related field.
Ability to influence and think strategically and create new and better ways for the organization to be successful.
