Job Title:    Human Resources Coordinator


Reports To:      Executive Director

Status:  Exempt


Shift:  8-4:30

General Summary:

To direct the human resources department in accordance with the federal, state and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern Bethany Lutheran Health Services and as may be required by the Executive Director to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. 


  • Minimum of two years’ experience in human resource function.
  • Must be able to read and communicate the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to receive and act upon direction.
  • Must be able to maintain professional relationships with staff, residents and visitors.
  • Must be computer literate in a Windows environment and able to operate standard office equipment.

Essential Job Functions:

I.          Employee Related Functions

  • Recruit, select and train competent personnel. This includes checking applications and references of prospective employees in addition to arranging for interviews, or any necessary appointments, and maintaining an applicant pool.  Orient new personnel to facility and explain personnel policies, procedures, and regulations as established in the personnel manual.
  • Monitor unemployment           claims, participate in unemployment hearings and record data in files.
  • Monitor and track workers compensation claims.
  • Create and maintain personnel files; ensure that appropriate documents are signed and available as needed.
  • Design, implement, and review personnel forms.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent employee information according to the Privacy Act, at all times.
  • Create and participate in employee recognition.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding hiring, terminating, wages, overtime, work comp, unemployment, work hours, reference checking, nurse aide and new hire reporting, etc.
  • Maintain attendance, counseling and warning records and other disciplinary action taken against employees in the personnel files.
  • Maintain a good employee relations program that serves the best interest of the facility and community alike.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Serve as Designated Compliance Officer
    • Coordinate quarterly Compliance Committee meetings
    • Conduct monthly compliance audits
    • Conduct small group trainings/topic discussions
    • Be available for staff to come to with any potential compliance issues or concerns
    • Conduct compliance investigations, including completion of reporting to the Office of Civil Rights for HIPAA and privacy violations, if needed

II.        Supervisory Functions

  • Perform wage, salary, benefit, and recognition, etc. surveys annually and make recommendations for change to Administrator.
  • Create, chair, organize, and maintain Recognition Committee and events.
  • Coordinate and monitor safety programs, such as fire orientation, on a monthly basis.
  • Attend mandatory in-services and meetings.
  • Represent human resources department in meetings and on Committees as required.
  • Review and develop a plan of correction for any human resources deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy to the Administrator within one week of receiving Plan of Correction report/request from State.
  • Forecast needs of departments on an annual basis, prepare and present budget to Executive Director for review. 
  • Maintain accurate records of performance evaluations for all staff members, and notify supervisors when reviews are due.  Review all evaluations.
  • Ensure Workers Compensation claims are promptly turned in to the appropriate agency and work with employees, managers, physicians and workers compensation agency to ensure the incidents are handled in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Enforce all written policies and procedures and make recommendations for change as appropriate to the Executive Director.
  • Create and review annual goals with the Executive Director.
  • Coordinate all in-services with other departments to ensure efficiency, timeliness, and convenience to residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Delegate a responsible staff member to act on your behalf in your absence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 50 lbs. to a minimum of 3ft.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents in an emergency situation.
  • Must be able to kneel, stoop or bend to assist residents.
