Omaha Early Learning Center at Kennedy is searching for an experienced individual to fill our vacancy for a Food Aide.
 
The Food Aide is responsible for preparing healthy meals for the children enrolled in the OELC program and for various Omaha Early Learning Center functions as required.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Assists with the preparation of meals and snacks according to CACFP guidelines.
  • Maintains kitchen sanitation requirements through cleaning of utensils, dishes, and equipment on a scheduled basis.
  • Assists with activities of ordering, storing, and maintaining inventories of food products and kitchen chemicals.
  • Assists with preparation of paperwork associated with the nutrition program.
  • Launders center items as needed on a daily basis. 

Education and experience required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of work experience in similar position.
  • Training in quantity food preparation. Two or more years of job-related experience or training in institutional or hospital food service department (preferred).
  • Willingness to participate in food handlers training. 

Essential skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge and ability to assess product quality.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and hygiene.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform tasks independently and give necessary help and direction to other workers.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to communicate with others, both verbally and in writing. 
  •  Ability to lift, move and reposition objects and materials, frequently exerting force equal to lifting twenty-five (25) to fifty (50) pounds.

The Omaha Early Learning Centers, Inc., in partnership with Omaha Public Schools, is a community-based nonprofit organization which operates high-quality early learning programs for low-income children ages birth to three.  Each of these modern facilities occupy their own building on an elementary school campus in one of Omaha’s high-need neighborhoods. The Early Learning Center at Skinner is on the campus of Skinner Magnet in north Omaha, and the Early Learning Center at Gateway is on the campus of Gateway Elementary in south Omaha. A third school, scheduled to open in 2018, is being built adjacent to Howard Kennedy Elementary in north Omaha.

Omaha Early Learning Centers is part of the Nebraska Early Childhood Collaborative family that includes; Educare Lincoln and both Educare Omaha locations.
