System Service: is our Corporate Headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado and is located within the Oracle campus. This position will start working in our Lakewood, CO office and transition to the Broomfield office by 2019. Your day

As a System Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Educator you need to know how to:

  • This position reports to the SCL Health System CDI Compliance and Data Manager and is responsible for conducting onsite and remote training for the CDS team, physicians, Coding and other departments as necessary.  Integral to this position will be the onboarding and orientation of new Clinical Documentation Specialists to the CDS role.  This individual will work collaboratively with CDI Leadership to develop, facilitate and coordinate systemwide educational resources including orientation manual, tools, and processes.  They will aid in development and education of all Healthcare Providers to keep them up-to-date in documentation principles and concepts relative to their areas of practice. Inclusive in this role is aiding in creation of tip sheets, pocket cards and other tools necessary for ongoing education and success of CDI program objectives.  Additionally, this position will be current on CDI Best Practice standards and support the mission, vision and values of CDI program.  In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties assigned based upon SCL Health needs or requirements. 
Other essential duties include:
  • Serve as mentor to CDS staff and provides performance feedback and coaching for success at regular intervals during new hire training.
  • Develops and provides continuing education of Clinical Documentation Specialists throughout system.
  • Educate CDI team in order to meet and maintain enterprise goals and objectives, regulatory compliance, policies and procedures and personnel management.
  • Perform internal audits for CDS performance improvement, as needed.
  • Collaborate with CDI Leadership team to develop training for identified knowledge gaps and/or at-risk DRGs.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Performance Analyst(s) to implement instruction at Care Sites for individual CDS, Providers, and/or other ancillary departments to close knowledge gaps.
  • Stay current on all CDI-related literature and current pathophysiology.
  • Develop and present, as needed, education to Healthcare Providers to keep them up-to-date in documentation principles and concepts relative to their areas of practice.
  • Develop materials for provider educational presentations, tip sheets, pocket cards and other tools as needed.
  • Provide functional leadership and guidance to other members assigned to project teams.
  • Participate in the interview process and evaluation of CDS candidates, assisting CDS Manager in identifying the best candidates for hire.  Orient and train all new Clinical Documentation Specialists.  Assess new hires throughout onboarding and training process and communicates assessments to CDI Leadership.
  • 30% - 50% travel as needed for new CDS training and ongoing CDS education and training.

 

Your experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration or related field is required
  • CDIP or CCDS certification is required 
  • Registered Nurse (RN), or other clinical license/registration, with minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical setting (acute care hospital preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Nursing and at least 3 years as a Clinical Documentation Specialist. 
  • Previous electronic medical record and chart review experience.
  • A broad knowledge of disease process, normal/abnormal findings, and reasonable course of treatment, quality measures and risk management issues.
Preferred:

  • Master's level degree in Nursing, Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field is preferred.
  • CCS certification
  • Management experience preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical setting, acute care hospital preferred.
  • Experienced educator preferred with strong understanding of the requirements for clinical coding and billing according to the rules of Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial Payers.
  • Experience and training with adult learning methodologies. Work experience should include a broad scope of management, systems analysis, project management and extensive interaction at all levels of management and staff.
