GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provides professional nursing care under supervision for clinic patients.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Valid Nebraska state license to practice nursing. (Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse), CPR certification.
EXPERIENCE: One year experience working with patients in a clinic setting strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Rooms patients and prepares them for examination by provider. Measures vital signs, obtains history and documents same in electronic medical record (EMR) initiating progress note and updating medication list. Provides patient/family education. Prepares for and assists provider with procedures such as sutures, nasal cautery, ear cleaning. Administers medications and treatments as ordered by provider and within scope of practice. Performs specimen collection. Prepares specimens and orders for send out labs. Documents and reports lab results to providers and patients. Gives allergy injections. Facilitates scheduling and follow up for patients referred for consults and procedures.Prepares exam rooms for use. Maintains organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area. Attends meetings as required. Maintains satisfactory, regular and predictable attendance by reporting to work as scheduled and keeping unscheduled absences to a minimum. Ensures all communications reflect the standards and mission of Family ENT. Maintains patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA Guidelines. Displays a consistently positive, cooperative, self-motivated, courteous and professional attitude .Performs other duties as assigned. The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Understanding of nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care in a Ear, Nose and Throat clinic setting. Knowledgeable of organization’s policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Properly uses medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Aware of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Knowledge of emergency medical procedures. Skilled in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of nursing to provide on-going patient care. Identifies problems and recommends solutions. Accurately and efficiently uses the EMR. Maintains effective working relationships with patients, patients’ families, clinical staff, and the public. Maintains quality control standards. Reacts calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Has the ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Communicates clearly; and works collaboratively with physicians and other staff.
Acts as a team player in fulfilling all accountabilities.Supports and respect coworkers and respond positively to changes in assignments and priorities.Demonstrates commitment to satisfying patient and family's needs at all times.Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal and conflict resolution skills for quality patient interactions and in support of co-workers and teamwork.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Working under stress and use of telephone required. Manual dexterity required for use of calculator and computer keyboard. Interaction with others is constant and interrupted. Contact involves dealing with sick people.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination; standing and walking for periods of time; occasionally lifting; corrected vision and hearing to normal range; works under stressful conditions and potentially works irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
