Position Summary

Responsible for the preventative maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting for equipment and the related areas of the plant.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

Assist in the development and implementation of a preventative maintenance program to anticipate and check, lube and record all structural, rebar and batch plant equipment. Perform scheduled maintenance on all equipment safely. Complete maintenance and repair logs.

Independently determines the need and performs basic repair, and service work on electrical, and mechanical, on production equipment.

Ensures safe and efficient operation of the plant through maintenance, inspection and repair of the equipment and operating conditions of the concrete plant. Assure OSHA standards are met.

Performs scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance and adjustments of selected equipment and fixtures, as well as, operational testing and verification to specific standards. Equipment includes cranes, and batch plant and hollow core. Duties may vary from changing light bulbs to rebuilding gear boxes.

Assist machine operators in break downs and help trouble shoot problems with all machines.

Perform multiple tasks while maintaining a high degree of attention to details.

Uses various hand tools and test equipment periodically to analyze, evaluate and correct malfunctions with various systems, devices and/or instruments. Keep small power tools in proper working order.

Assure appropriate personnel is informed of potential problems, status and timeline of projects. Assure work is completed timely and safely. Support other departments according to needs as directed by appropriate personnel.

Account and order parts and supplies for maintaining the various machines. Keep a well maintained shop.

Other duties may be assigned.

Position Requirements and Education: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Must be mechanically inclined and able to troubleshoot machinery and equipment.
  • Would prefer someone with working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems.
  • Must also be able to read and understand the schematics for those systems.
  • Previous plant preventative maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Valid NE driver’s license and be insurable under the company insurance program.
  • Must be able to pass respiratory function test for working in confined areas. 
  • Must be proactive in maintenance approach to plant operations.
  • Must have demonstrated working skills and an experience with electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems. 
  • AWS certified welder to assist with heavy and critical welding is beneficial but not required. 
  • Basic knowledge of the operation and maintenance of small diesel motors and standard motor vehicles.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.

Would regularly climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl into some possible tight environments; able to talk, hear, and smell.

The employee is occasionally required to sit.

Must be able to perform duties in tight quarters.

Direct frontal reaching is required while the employee may be required to lift 75 pounds to waist height.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Employees are required to wear protective safety gear and eye protection.

The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, may be extreme hot or cold.

Must wear any protective devices as required by the company safety policies relating to the assignment being performed.

The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

This is a year round job. Hours may vary based on daily production requirements and emergency requirements.

Occasional weekend work will be required.

Must be reliable, and have a good attendance record.
