Position Summary

Operate equipment to include a rubber tire loader, track loader, track dozer, skid loader, excavator, dredge and other various types of sand and gravel pit equipment. Provide support maintenance/ mechanical/welding/fabricating facility work.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

Operate plant and mobile equipment to support production and sales functions at plant site.

Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, moves levers, turns steering wheel, etc. to operate equipment.

Maintain plant site, equipment and shop according to safety standards, including all aspects of good housekeeping.

Check brakes, tires, springs, engine oil, etc. on a daily basis.  Complete required inspection sheets. Grease, change oil, change tires and perform other maintenance as required.

Other duties may be assigned.

Position Requirements and Education

  • Requires previous heavy equipment operating experience. 
  • Proven mechanical troubleshooting skills preferred. 
  • Must also be mechanically and physically inclined to provide support mechanical skills to the operation.
  • Must be capable of becoming certified on heavy equipment.
  • Must demonstrate willingness to perform other support duties during non-busy time.
  • Must be able to work with various hand tools of the trade.  
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule during busy season.  Must be able to work late or irregular hours.

Regularly required to sit; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms.   

Would regularly climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; able to talk, hear, and smell.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds to waist high and be able to use up to 35 pounds of force occasionally. 

Direct frontal reaching is required while the employee may be required to lift 25 pounds over the head occasionally. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

Employees are required to wear protective safety gear, eye & ear protection.

The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, confined spaces and possible extreme heat.  

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration.

The employee will also climb stairs or ladders to access the plant or equipment. 

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Employees are required to wear protective ear protection. 

There are some chemical exposures that are part of performing the job.

SDS sheets are available in the department.

Plant and field environment with exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases and chemicals.

This is a non-smoking/vaping campus.

Condition of Employment
