Position Summary

Helps mechanics and supervisors in day-to-day operations of the Fleet Garage.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

All aspects of vehicle and equipment maintenance, reporting mileage and record service logs.

Services, troubleshoots and repairs company vehicles and equipment as needed. This includes servicing and minor repairs to passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, heavy duty trucks, trailers, and any other designated machinery.

Performs all work in accordance with schedules, policies, procedures and standards of quality and safety. In doings such functions, comply with company rules, procedures, and guidelines. Notifies appropriate personnel of any problems.

Transports various items (tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) as needed for equipment availability.

Maintains and assures cleanliness and neatness of shop area.

Assures safety standards are met.

Reports unsafe practices.

Other duties may be assigned.

Position Requirements and Education

  • Vehicle and/or heavy equipment experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must have a general mechanical aptitude. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s insurance plan.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands & fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.

The employee is occasionally required to sit.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Employees are required to wear protective eye protection.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat.

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Employees are required to wear protective ear protection.

There are some chemical exposures that are part of performing the job.

SDS sheets are available in the department.

This is a tobacco free facility and campus.
