Safety Coordinator        

 

Must have a good driving record and be insurable under the company's insurance plan.  A background check is required,  pre-employment physical and drug screen required. 

Position Summary

Provides safety review and support to all plants within CI NE City coverage, and assist in Quality Control duties when needed by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Safety Duties:

Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

Coordinates with the NEBCO Safety Department to assure programs and records are maintained for compliance under OSHA and DOT standards. 

Performs DOT support duties by checking ready mix ticket edits, checking driver’s logs, completing inventory of ready mix related products, and other reports as requested.

Work with the Foreman and other designated personnel at the various plant sites to provide expertise in evaluating for safe work environments. Periodically audit practices and records of manufacturing plants to ensure compliance with company programs and Federal/State occupational safety and health regulations.

Investigates and reports causes of accidents, injuries, and illnesses, and develops and recommends solutions to Plant Manager.  Ensures safe and efficient operation of the plant through inspection and recommended repair of the equipment and operating conditions of the concrete plant.

To perform inspections and monitoring to determine compliance with air quality, wastewater and storm water regulations.

Assure a Lockout/Tagout program/policy for all plants within CI NE City coverage is developed and implemented while assuring employees follow safe lockout/tagout procedures.

Develop and maintain safe shut down procedures on each piece of equipment or machine that their employees are expected to service or maintain. The shutdown procedures should be reviewed by and approved by the Plant Manager.

Maintain the SDS Book and assure it is compliance at all plants.

Prepare/conduct/assist in monthly Safety meetings.

Work with management to assist with Quality Control Duties.

Visually check batches of concrete for obvious batching errors.  Reviews concrete product to determine whether the product meets the specifications of the contractor.

Perform a final inspection, measuring all pertinent specs before product is delivered.

Report all variances to the all plants within CI NE City coverage plant personnel.

Test products and materials used in manufacturing by Concrete Industries and NEBCO companies.

Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management.

Documents data obtained during all quality assurance activities, to assure consistency of company standards and customer specifications.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:  

High school diploma is preferred. Safety or related field 2-3 years demonstrated safety related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a high level of technical expertise, ability to apply skills to continuous process improvement while maintaining maximum levels of safety within the plants.  Knowledge of construction worksite safety practices and procedures is preferred.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret contract documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively with large groups of employees in the company.  Bilingual (E/S) helpful but not necessary. Must be able to document safety reports.

Mathematical Skills:

Must have strong math skills with an ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve complex problems.  Must also have the ability to deal with a variety of situations related to directing and motivating employees.

Computer Skills:                                                                                                                                    

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft systems and department manufacturing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

ACI Level 1 certification is preferred, but not required.  If applicant does not have the certification, must be willing to learn the requirements and be able to complete training and certificate process within one year of starting the position.  Must have a valid NE driver’s license, with a good driving record needed to travel between plants.  Must be able to attain an OSHA-30 card within six months of hire.

Other Skills and Abilities:  

Must have strong planning, organizational and follow up skills. Must have demonstrated leadership skills and abilities.  Must be detail oriented with an ability to coordinate multiple tasks at one time.  Mechanical aptitude necessary.  Must have an ability to work at all levels within an organization and the ability to work in a diverse work group. The position may be required to be "on-call" to respond to emergency situations.  The position may require extended work hours to meet business needs.  Prefer previous working knowledge of confined space standards and procedures, lock-out/tag-out, emergency fall protection and hearing protection.  This is a confidential employee.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and use hands and fingers to handle, or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to attend business meetings and visit various construction sites as needed. Personal protection equipment is required as the position operates in a structural yard and manufacturing plant. This position does require the employee to be willing to work evenings, nights and weekends, as needed/required to assure the ongoing review and maintenance required of the preventive maintenance program is completed according to schedule.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee works regularly in a manufacturing office/plant environment.  The employee will be required to conduct investigations at various outside locations.  The noise level in the work environment is moderately quiet to very loud.  The job requires a considerable amount of discipline to motivate and maintain a constant commitment to motivating others, meeting goals and achieving results.  Work is not generally limited to standard business hours and weekend and evening hours may be required. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment based on the nature of the activity being performed. This is a non-smoking campus.

Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements.  Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment.
