Estimator

Company:  Concrete Industries, Inc.  Department: Estimating Dept.

Location: 6300 Cornhusker Highway, Lincoln, Nebraska

                        Summary

Analyzes construction documents, supplier and subcontractor proposals, and other documentation to prepare material and labor estimates and proposals for some or all of the following products; fabricated reinforcing steel, structural precast products, concrete pipe, concrete related warehouse materials, and structural steel by performing the following:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

Reviews documents to determine material and labor requirements for the preparation of estimates.

Prepares estimates and proposals for bid projects.

May provide pricing and other information for walk-in or phone customers.

Work with other departments to determine costs, finalize proposal pricing, interpret documents, and manage projects. 

Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Some college preferred in a construction related discipline, three to five years demonstrated strong technical, construction and design skills; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Proven abilities to work independently and working in a changing environment.  Previous construction estimating experience would be helpful.

Language Skills: 

Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings and specifications.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to communicate and speak effectively to customers, architects, contractors or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:    

Must have good proven, math skills.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

Reasoning Ability:  

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Must be able to visualize assembly of structural components in their mind.

Computer Skills:

Must have previous work experience with PC's, which must include Microsoft Office software skills in spreadsheets (Excel) and word processing (Word). 

Other Skills and Abilities:

Must be able to read and understand blueprints.  Must have previous knowledge of construction materials. Must have excellent attention to detail, an ability to work under pressure without constant supervision. 

Other Qualifications:

Must have good work habits.  Incumbent may be required to work overtime on short notice during periods of increased workload. 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Office/business environment mostly.  This is a small office so attendance and reliability is very important to assure coverage and project support for the business.  Dress code is casual.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  This is a non-smoking office and campus environment. 

Condition of Employment:

Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements.  Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment.
