Night Plant Operator, Western Sand & Gravel, North Ashland location
This is a night position until the pumping season ends late this fall. Night hours are 6pm to 6am, five days a week. Day hours in the winter typically are 7am to 4pm.
Must be able to work at the Ashland, Sand Creek--WS & G facility. Employment offers are contingent on applicant successfully completing a pre-employment physical, back screen and drug screen.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
Ensures safe and efficient operation of the plant through maintenance, inspection and repair of the equipment and operating conditions of the plant.
Assists in performing preventative maintenance on equipment.
Operates plant based on production schedules to assure appropriate sequence of operations.
Keep plant facilities clean and safe for efficient operation. Will operate a fire hose to clean the plant, operate water valves, and control electrical switches in the plant.
Maintain appropriate logs.
As needed, use a skid-loader and/or loader to work around the plant and dredge. Notify appropriate personnel of any problems.Assure the next shift operator is informed of plant status.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have previous heavy equipment operating experience. Must have the ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions. Ability to be mechanically inclined is recommended.
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Must be able to operate with minimal supervision, be a trouble shooter and take initiative to investigate and resolve problems. Must be a self starter. Must be able to work well with others.
Must be flexible regarding work assignments. Must demonstrate willingness to perform other support duties during non busy times. Must be able to work with various hand tools of the trade. Must have good manual dexterity and good motor coordination skills.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and sit; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. Would regularly climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; able to talk, hear, and smell. Must be able to use up to 20 pounds of force occasionally. Direct frontal reaching is required while the employee may be required to lift 25 pounds over the head occasionally, must also be able to lift &/or move 70 pounds to waist height. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employees are required to wear protective safety gear and eye protection.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and possible extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; 25% outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee will also climb stairs to access the plant. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employees are required to wear protective ear protection. There are some chemical exposures that are part of performing the job. SDS sheets are available in the department. The shift for this position may be up to 12 hours per shift.
Plant and field environment with exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, chemicals, and work in some confined. This is a non-smoking campus.
Condition of Employment:
Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements. Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment.
Employees work out of the Ashland Shop as a base site. Summer hours are 6 pm to 6 am, 5 days a week. Hours may range from 40 to 60 hours per week from spring to fall. During the winter season, all employees work the day shift only and work from 40 to 45 hours.
