Ready Mixed Concrete Truck Driver—2 openings
Department—Husker Ready Mixed Concrete, A NEBCO company Location: Lincoln, NE
Drives a transit mixer truck equipped with auxiliary concrete mixer to deliver concrete mix
and other related construction products to job sites by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
Daily perform a pre- and post- trip safety check (walk around inspection) on the currently assigned truck and related equipment to assure a safe and compliant vehicle. Document any maintenance that may be required.
Maintain log book and other records to meet DOT and company regulations.
Position truck under loading facility as required, and prepare truck to receive concrete. Follow guidelines and instructions from plant personnel and Plant Foreman.
Drive truck to designated jobsite or location for unloading. Must be able to distinguish between safe and unsafe conditions in traffic, on the jobsite, and throughout plant areas.
Assemble unloading chutes, and attach to the rear of truck as required. Operate appropriate controls on truck to discharge concrete while being directed by contractor or contractor’s representative (customer) into a conveying device or directly into forms.
Take steps according to company policy to clean truck after unloading and prepare truck for return to plant. Replace chutes to rack, and make certain everything is secure and safe for travel.
Maintain functionality and appearance of assigned truck and equipment using truck cleaning compounds and wearing PPE according to company policy.
Perform minor routine maintenance to assigned vehicle daily or as needed (check tire pressure, lube ring on mixer drum, check all fluid levels i.e. coolant, fuel, and oil).
When workload is light – may be asked to assist in other areas if qualified such as: repair/maintenance in plant areas, yard clean-up, or drive equipment for affiliated companies.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Previous commercial truck driving experience is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class B minimum) and be insurable under the company’s insurance program.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Previous commercial truck driving experience is preferred. Must meet insurability for driving requirements of the company. Must meet the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical requirements and carry a physical exam card, which is to be kept current according to DOT guidelines.
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule during busy season. Must be able to work late or irregular hours. Previous knowledge of construction and construction products is helpful. Must understand and maintain the internal and external customer service responsibilities of the position.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 42 pounds to shoulder height. Must be able to lift, place and set warehouse products as required during load preparation, loading and unloading. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must wear protective devices as required by the company safety policy in the performance of the job.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions (may be extreme hot and cold). The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts, minimal amount of non-hazardous dust daily and fumes or other possible airborne particles. May be vibration from the equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to very loud. This is a non-smoking campus, which includes the trucks.
Condition of Employment:
Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements. Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment.
