Intern position is for a qualified Junior or Senior College Student in the Lincoln area

Job Summary:

This position is designed to provide an intern with practical professional work experience

in the corporate wellness environment with numerous field locations throughout Nebraska

specializing in the construction industry by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

This position will be responsible for supporting the Employee Wellness program through the Wellness Coordinator in an effort to expand and implement a culture of wellness and in promoting healthy lifestyle choices for employees.

Assist in the development, organization, implementation, and assessment of wellness programs for NEBCO company employees.  Must develop and implement at least one special program/event each semester for employees related to exercise, wellness, and healthy lifestyles.

Develop, organize, market, implement, and evaluate a specific project, program, or event to be determined.

Assist with wellness screenings and coaching.

Assist with aspects of program delivery such as registering participants, reserving facilities, and preparing handouts/materials.

Assist with administrative tasks; wellness metrics, program results, educational resource materials, and communication materials.

Evaluate assigned programs, analyze outcomes, and summarize results.

Assists the Wellness Coordinator with recommendations for the Wellness committee and ambassadors to coordinate, promote and deliver wellness activities that promote healthy behaviors, i.e., health assessments, needs assessments, health screenings, education, communications, etc. 

Assist in the preparation of effective internal marketing of wellness programs to maximum participation.

Develop basic wellness coaching principles and their importance in a wellness program.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:    

Enrolled in Bachelor’s degree at a Junior or Senior level in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Physical Education or related field.  Preferably, applicant will have successfully completed Exercise Physiology and Exercise Testing or related courses or equivalent required.  Must be a full or part-time student in good academic standing.

Language Skills:       

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, government regulations, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees.  Ability to write policies and procedures, training programs and incident reports, that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to employee/public groups.  Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate with employees and other business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.  Skill in effecting good employee relations including the ability to function effectively in confrontational situations.

Mathematical Skills:     

General math skills with an understanding of mathematical computations and concepts such as calculating percentages, basic addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.

Reasoning Ability:     

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several variables.

Computer Skills:       

Must have good skills in operating a personal computer and various software packages. Some web-site development experience would be helpful.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:   

CPR/AED and First Aid preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities:   

Knowledge of healthy lifestyle resources.  Must be able to deal effectively with employees representing a broad socioeconomic and cultural spectrum.  Ability to work independently and make proper decisions.  Ability to maintain highly confidential information-- this is a confidential employee.  Must have knowledge of HIPAA requirements.  Ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines. 

Other Qualifications:   

Must live in the Lincoln area.  Must have excellent project management skills to oversee program development and rollout.  Must have a valid Nebraska driver’s license with an insurable driving record--must be able to travel to the various business locations. Must be willing to work flexible hours to accommodate the work schedules at the various employee sites. 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The multi locations of the employee groups require the employee to operate outside the confines of the health office environment.  The employee may be exposed to unsafe, infectious, or extremely emotional situations.  This is a non-smoking campus.

Condition of Employment:

Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements.  Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment.
