Production Plant Manager

Department / Location: Concrete Industries, Lincoln, NE

Summary

The Production Manager will provide leadership and direction for three divisions

 within the Concrete Industries, Inc. corporate structure, CI Structural Precast, CI Concrete Pipe, and CI Concrete Reinforcing Fabrication, and support the vision and values of the company. The manager is responsible for the efficient use of all plant resources to produce quality products by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

Ensure systems and processes in the plant produce quality products efficiently.

Ensure care and overall maintenance of plant properties, building and equipment.

Coordinate day-to-day activities among the various production and material departments.

Review labor and production cost reports for precast/prestressed concrete, and concrete pipe manufacturing facilities, plus a concrete steel reinforcing fabrication facility to find efficiencies and reduce overall costs.

Collaborate with all departments in promotion, sales, production and delivery of products.

Provide direction for plant purchase and receiving.

Manage budget and cost reduction initiatives.

Hire, supervise, and train staff in alignment with the company’s policies and practices.

Assist in the development and implementation of succession planning for key roles.

Maintain involvement in the industry associations.  

Represent the company according to a high level of professionalism, ethics, integrity and product knowledge.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

This position directly supervises five exempt management personnel, five hourly employees and oversight for over 100 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in Business, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Production, Construction Management or related field is preferred or an Associate’s degree in a related field and 5+ years demonstrated manufacturing supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have previous experience leading a precast/prestressed concrete manufacturing operation including bridge girders or concrete pipe facility.

Language Skills:                                                    

Ability to read and interpret technical documents.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. Must be thorough in verbal and written communication skills to assure all aspects of the project are documented.  Must be able to maintain good customer service.   Ability to develop a strong customer base and maintain ongoing business relationships.  Must be able to present ideas with knowledge and authority.

Mathematical Skills:                                              

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to present information so that it is understandable and meets the needs of the customer.

Reasoning Ability:                                                 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule.

Computer Skills:                                                    

Basic MS Office skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable with the company driver policy.

Other Skills and Abilities:                                                  

Previous management experience in related industry is preferred. Demonstrated ability to coordinate resources to meet internal business objectives and customer expectations.  Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise staff.  Demonstrated skills or knowledge of budgeting and financial analysis skills.  Ability to effectively implement change, facilitate meetings, and manage conflict resolution.

Other Qualifications:                                             

Must have a good attention to detail.  Must have good people skills.  Must be able to work weekends and evenings based on business needs or customer requests.  Some overnight travel may be required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and use hands and fingers to handle, or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to go to construction sites as needed.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.  May be required to make possible visits to construction sites.  The job requires a considerable amount of discipline to motivate and maintain a constant commitment to meeting goals and achieving results.  This is a non-smoking facility.

Condition of Employment:

Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements.  Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment.  This also applies to all transfers, fit-for-duty and return to work programs.
