Drafting Office Assistant


Provides administrative and back up support services

to the Engineering department by performing the following duties:


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

Project setup for Rebar, Pipe and Precast jobs in Lawson and Excel.

Input and maintain product listings in Lawson.

Input and maintain NDOT project information logs.  Track strand heat number logs.

Maintains paper structural and hollowcore job files and calculations.

Performs clerical duties as needed, such as typing, filing, photocopying, and collating.

Request purchase orders for large format copier supplies.

Receives, sorts, and routes mail.

Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience:                         

High School education or equivalent GED.  One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:                                                      

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write basic correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:                                                            

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:                                                   

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a several variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:                                                      

To perform this job successfully, preference is given to an individual with working knowledge of Office software -- Word and Excel is preferred.  The business uses Lawson accounting software packages and must be able to be trained on the software. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Valid NE Driver’s License.

Other Skills and Abilities:                                                  

Must be able to multi task according to the needs of the operation.  Must operate with a high degree of accuracy, due to the nature of the job.  Must have excellent numerical skills with a high degree of attention to detail.  Must have accurate and good typing and 10 key adder skills.  Must have good customer service skills.

Other Qualifications:  

Must be neat in appearance.  Must be reliable and timely to work due to the nature of the duties of the position.                                                        

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel. The employee is required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Ability to bend, stoop to complete file retrieval or update.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:  

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.  Office/business environment mostly.  This is a small office so attendance and reliability is very important to assure coverage and office support for the business.  May provide administrative support services to the administrative staff.  Dress code casual.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  This is a non-smoking office environment.   Works 40 hours per week.  Must be flexible in working hours, which would be according to business needs.  This is a non-smoking campus.

Condition of Employment:

Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements.  Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment.  This also applies to all transfers, fit-for-duty and return to work programs.
