This is a paid intern position and ONLY available to students currently enrolled in the IT program at Southeast Community College.
Provides the assistance and support to the IT staff to support and maintain in-house desktops, laptops and associated peripherals, which includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment while ensuring reliable workstation performance by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
Work with end users to identify and deliver required PC functionality.
Liaise with, and provide training and support to end users and staff on computer operation and other related issues.
Install, image, configure, test, maintain, monitor and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, networked peripheral devices and networking hardware products.
Install and maintain operability of end user software applications.
Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis and resolution of complex PC problems for a variety of end users. Recommend and implement approved corrective hardware and software solutions, including off-site/outsourced repair as needed.
Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages and/or e-mails regarding PC and/or other network component problems.
Construct, install and test configurations based on various platforms and operating systems. Update PC images as needed.
Conduct research on computer products in support of PC procurement and development efforts.
Evaluate and recommend hardware and/or software products for purchase.
Recommend, schedule, and perform PC, hardware and peripheral equipment improvements, upgrades and repairs.
Record and track in detail, requests using the approved Help Desk software. Assist in some computer training to the Help Desk to assure greater response to requests.
Comply and support company's IT strategies, procedures and policies.
Provide computer assistance in the most efficient manner via phone, remote control or on-site.
Support development and implementation of new system projects, and hardware and software installations.
Assist in the evaluation of hardware, software and training program purchases.
Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, maintain current knowledge of plan executables and respond to crises in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
Assist with various activities, including verifying backups, performing user administration functions, document recovery, and wiring.
Other duties may be assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
Working on an Associate’s degree in computer science, management information systems. Demonstrated ability and past hand-on experience installing, supporting and troubleshooting desktops, laptops and associated products in a networked environment is preferred. Must have effective interpersonal and relationship building skills. Must be self motivated and directed.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical manuals, procedural documentation and maintenance instructions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of employees of organization. Strong written and oral communication skills. Must be able to present ideas in user friendly language.
Basic math skills required. Must be able to work with numbers and dates to complete reports.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.
Must have hands-on, in-depth working experience of Microsoft Windows (XP, 7). Must be able to utilize and provide basic end-user support for Microsoft Office (2003, 2007, 2010) products. Understanding of Ethernet wiring and Network Operating Systems such as Windows Server helpful. Windows Server 2003/2008 experience/knowledge a plus.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must have a NE driver’s license with a good driving record to meet the needs of the company insurance program.

Must also have good communication skills and understand operating in a confidential, supportive work environment. Must focus on providing quality products and services while demonstrating a high degree of professionalism. Must have a sense of urgency to resolve issues according to sound prioritization skills. Ability to conduct research into PC issues and products as required. Must be flexible and able to prioritize and juggle multiple issues simultaneously.
Must have good attention to detail, with excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands & fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Due to the nature of the business, must be able to operate in diverse work environments and locations. Will work from the Corporate offices at 1815 Y Street, Lincoln, NE location. Position does have light to moderate travel requirements to the field locations to provide technical assistance to the users. Must understand the need to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment focusing on developing the best, cost effective solutions. This is an intern position where the individual is learning on the job while applying education and past work skills to the office environment. Company is flexible as to working hours between 8-5. This is a paid internship working 20-30 hours per week. This is a non smoking campus and company.

Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment.
