Produce steel erection drawings and piece details from architectural/structural drawings, per agreed to schedule, that translate contract documents into useable information providing an accurate and effective communication link to insure proper production and placement of the material supplied by the company by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
Reads and understands architectural/structural drawings and specifications.
Produces erection drawings, production piece detail drawings and material drawings for structural and miscellaneous steel products sold, checking dimensions of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
Utilizes knowledge of three dimensional modeling and detailing software (SDS/2 or Tekla), other various computer programs, engineering practices, production practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
Makes any adjustments or changes necessary or desired.
Implements American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) standard practices for fabrication, welding, bolting and paint.
Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and resolve issues.
Communicates with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the production of detailed drawings. Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
Two year Associates Degree in Architectural Drafting or related college experience required plus two to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Previous structural detailing experience is required. Must have knowledge and working experience of standard AISC connections. Must be proficient at reading and understanding prints and specifications and be able to transfer information off the contract documents and governing codes.
Good knowledge of English language with ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate and speak effectively to customers, architects, contractors or employees of the organization.
Must have good proven, math skills with working knowledge of trigonometry. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Excellent ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings. Mentally must be able to visualize the assembly of structural components, in three dimensions.
Must have previous work experience with PC's, which must include office software skills in spreadsheets (Excel) and word processing (Word). Apollo Steel uses AutoCAD and SDS/2. Experience with CADD software and a three dimension modeling and steel detailing software is required. Knowledge of SDS/2, AutoCAD and FabTrol is a plus, but not required. Must be capable of learning new software/methods to maximize productivity.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Must be organized, have attention to detail, willing to follow instructions, able to work under pressure, able to multi task, have a willingness to learn. Must also have good spatial recognition skills. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Must be able to meet the team goals of a small office and support other team members as necessary. Previous knowledge of construction materials is required.
Must have good work habits. Incumbent may be required to work overtime on short notice during periods of increased workload. Must have good attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the work environment is usually very quiet. Normal work hours are 8-5, Monday through Friday, with some weekends—work hours are required to meet production standards and goals. Overtime may be required based, on business need. This is a non-smoking campus.
