Notice of Position Opening
We are currently recruiting to fill the following position:
Department / Location: Watkins Concrete Block Company, Omaha, NE
Employment offer is continguent on passing a pre-employment drug and back/physical screen and background screen.
Performs day to day rebar operations of cutting, shipping, receiving, customer
loading, and inventory control by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
Fabricate rebar pieces as determined by work order specifications and maintain adequate cut bar inventory.
Cut bar to required lengths, using H-2000 hydraulic shears.
Bend bar on KRB table top bender. Bend bar on Rebarmatic auto stirrup bender. Operate KRB Shearline.
Perform maintenance on equipment used within the department. Assure equipment is in good working condition and ready to be responsive to the department &/or customer needs.
Maintain the shop in a clean and orderly manner.
Assure appropriate personnel are informed of problems or shortages. Assist in ordering rebar stock, crane safety inspection, and inventory review of cut rebar.
Works with Watkins dispatcher and sales counter to process sales orders for walk in customers and load or unload rebar from customers' vehicles. Assure paperwork and material quality is correct.
Prepare all materials from warehouse for delivery or pickup.
Provide backup assistance and support to other positions within the department/company.
Other duties may be assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Previous experience in a construction &/or construction products related field is desired. Must have previous experience operating construction machinery or equipment--forklift, overhead crane, pallet loaders, lift truck and/or a front end loader. Previous rebar experience on a coil bender, table top bender & shear is preferred.
Ability to read and comprehend delivery tickets and invoices, load and sales tickets, MSDS sheets and the company safety manual. Ability to understand work direction.
Mathematical Skills: Must understand basic numbers and math to count inventory or complete orders based on sales tickets.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. Must be able to distinguish between safe and unsafe conditions in the yard and in the warehouse.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Forklift certification helpful. Must successfully completed all equipment and safety certification required by the company within 60 days of date in position. Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s insurance program.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Must have a good sense of detail and work to maintain a clean and safe yard and warehouse environment. Must be able to handle the extensive physical requirements of the job. Must have good attendance records.
Good physical skills to do the overall requirements of the job. Must be able to take direction from others and work well in a team environment. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule during busy season. Must be able to work late or irregular hours. Previous knowledge of construction and construction products is helpful. Must understand and maintain the internal and external customer service responsibilities of the position.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, reach, grasp overhead or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch on a repetitive bases, and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds to waist height. The employee must frequently be able to lift 50 pounds from waist height. Must be able to climb on and off, in and out of the loader or lift truck as often as required to fill orders placed by walk in customers or orders for delivery. Must have agility to maintain balance on Watkins trucks and customer vehicles while filling orders. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, may be extreme hot or cold. Work in a minimal amount of non-hazardous dust daily. Must be able to work in an environment with the stress of meeting orders and keeping up with the demand of material preparation for order. May be required to work in any of the environments listed for a temporary job assignment. Must wear any protective devices as required by the company safety policies relating to the assignment being performed. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule during busy season. Must be able to work late or irregular hours.
