Summary

Produce precast concrete erection drawings and piece details from architectural/structural drawings and precast concrete design calculations on schedule that translate contract documents into usable information providing an accurate and effective communication link to insure proper production, handling and placement of the material supplied by the company.

Qualifications:

  1. Education:
    Applicant must have a Community College Degree in Architectural Drafting. One year experience in drafting field outside of college is preferred/helpful.

  2. Good work habits and good attitude with a willingness to work.  Overtime is required, especially during the spring and summer months, sometimes on short notice.
  3. Reasonable communication skills to be able to communicate with architects, contractors and production personnel.
  4. Good math skills, with knowledge of trigonometry.
  5. Excellent ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
  6. Mentally must be able to visualize the assembly of structural components, in three dimensions.
  7. Ability to think independently and determine what needs to be drawn.  Must be able to determine the need from the architectural/structural drawings, and design calculations.
  8. Knowledge of precast/prestressed concrete a plus, but not necessary.  Previous precast detailing experience a plus, but not a requirement.
  9. Computer Aided Drafting skills are important.  We do not use AutoCAD.  We use a cad package called Arris, which is geared more towards architectural drafting, not just generic drafting. We will teach the differences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

Reads and understands architectural/structural drawings and specifications.

Produces erection drawings, production piece detail drawings, and material drawings for precast/prestressed products sold, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.

Utilizes knowledge of various computer programs, engineering practices, production practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.

Makes any adjustments or changes necessary or desired.

Concrete  Industries is currently using ARRIS Software for drafting. 

Language Skills:
Good knowledge of English language with ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.

Math Skills:
Applicant must have excellent math skills with a good knowledge of trigonometry.

Computer Skills:
Applicant must have knowledge a good knowledge of CAD drafting techniques and Microsoft Window Systems including Microsoft Word and Excel. Uses computer aided drafting software--ARRIS.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
While this position is in an office working environment, this person will be required to make frequent visits to the production facility for inspection of concrete forms, production setups and finished products.  This will require walking through a production environment, occasionally climbing onto forms, semi-trailers, etc.  Also, this person will make occasional visits to construction jobsites to inspect products during construction.  Concrete Industries is a non-smoking campus.

Condition of Employment:
Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements.  Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment.  This also applies to all transfers, fit-for-duty and return to work programs.
