    General Summary:

    This position requires routine manual labor associated with installation, modification, testing, inspection and maintenance to plumbing items such as but not limited to underground piping systems, building piping, fixtures, building equipment and controls. Employee in this job classification is under the supervision of the Mechanical Manager. This position will be responsible for providing cost estimates per job task, as well as final costs after jobs are completed. Additionally, shopping around for the best pricing for materials, and or the best quality product for the job will be required. Must demonstrate acceptable interpersonal skills and working relations with co-workers, staff, students and general.

    Essential Functions:

    1. Performs duties associated with plumbing work. Receive, monitor and complete work orders and schedule work accordingly. Maintain the facility’s plumbing systems according to the national, state and local codes, and facility regulatory agencies. Performs work such as but is not limited to:

    • Underground piping systems including domestic water, sewer storm drains and other similar systems.
    • Building piping including domestic water, sewer and other drain lines, air gas and vacuum lines.
    • Fixtures including faucets, toilets, traps and drains, water fountains and other similar devices.
    • Controls including meters, valves, regulators and back flow testing.
    • Opens clogged drains.
    • Pipe and tubing joining including silver brazing, soldering, caulking, threading, compression joints, flaring, pipe welding or other methods common to the trade.
    • Coordinates various functions of outside vendors and contractors. Inspects work completed by vendors to assess and confirm repairs made.
    • Read, interpret and update blueprints, facility management plans, or other reference materials as required.
    • Follows all Department safety requirements including the use of Lock Out/Tag Out devices, Personal Protective Equipment, and all other required safety measures.
    • Performs other duties associated with the Mechanical Department (Techs, PM’s, etc.) as assigned to assist with other projects and workload of the Department.

    2. Performs tasks associated with the District’s Preventative Maintenance Program.

    3. Inventory stock on hand, and requisition supplies as needed with approval from supervisor. Estimate costs on materials needed per job. Maintains appropriate and required paperwork, prepares reports as needed. Ability to react to change and handle other essential tasks as assigned.


    1. Education Level:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Journeyman Plumber's License – Must maintain annual training to keep all licenses up to date.

    2. Experience Desired:

    Minimum five years experience in commercial and industrial environment working as a plumber.

    3. Other Requirements:

    • Possess a valid driver’s license and meet all district requirements for driving school vehicles.
    • Journey level skill in maintenance and repair procedures including preventative maintenance, breakdown repair and trouble-shooting, construction, installation and fabrication techniques typical in trade.
    • Knowledge of building codes, rules and regulations.
    • Ability to read blueprints.
    • Experience in running a backhoe and trenching equipment.
    • Physically able to perform required responsibilities.
    • Ability to perform tasks alone, or with others.
    • Work with contractors for a satisfactory completion on contracted projects.
    • Basic math and the ability to measure and calculate quantities of material.
    • Able to work in cramped craw spaces and to work off ladders and scaffolding.
    • Ability to set up, safely operate, and care for all basic hand and powered tools.
    • Be available for on-call rotation and overtime as required.
