Body Shop Mechanic
Reporting to Maintenance Supervisor, the Body Shop Mechanic is responsible for body repairs and paint repairs from small to heavy-duty gas, diesel, CNG, and electric transit vehicles.
Official Position Title: Body Shop Mechanic
Wage: $23.11 to $25.58, plus tool allowance
Schedule: 8 hours a day 5 days a week:
Status: Represented - Transport Workers Union, Local 223
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Maintenance
Essential Job Functions:
- Tear down and repair body of buses and other transit vehicles
- Paint and refinish buses
- Weld, fabricate and straighten body panels (sheet metal, fiberglass, and other types of material)
- Replacement of windshields and other glass
- Help with accident estimates for insurance purposes
- Ensure fleet vehicles are in safe, working order when placed in service
- Utilize proficient and effective time management skills in performing assigned tasks
- Adhere to all safety regulations, policies, and procedures
- Maintain a safe work environment and clean work area
- Regular and predictable attendance according to the position’s approved work schedule
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years previous experience with automotive or truck body repairs and duties; OR any combination of relevant education and experience
- Can pass company-provided CDL training within 90 days of hire.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record
- Ability to learn fleet maintenance procedures
- Possess basic computer skills necessary
- Ability to weld and straighten body panels (sheet metal, fiberglass and other types of material)
- Possess necessary tools and ability to use a variety of shop tools and equipment
- Ability to work independently and possess strong attention to detail
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop and stand for long periods of time on concrete surfaces. Ability to perform lifting tasks up to 75 lbs.
- Able to pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and back screen; drug screen and complete an extensive background check
- Effective verbal and listening communication skills; and
- Good attendance and job performance record.
