What you would do in this role:

  • Notifies patient of out of pocket expenses prior to surgery. Set up payment plan for the out of pocket expense. Insures all documentation on patient is current and correct. Enters all information on an Excel spreadsheet.
  • Performs insurance adjustments at the time of posting the payment.
  • Responsible to notify Financial Manager of refund due on account.
  • Performs month-end reporting of unapplied accounts.
  • Examines explanation of benefits/review on denied and incomplete payments to determine if the claim was processed correctly by the carrier. 
  • Coordinates with other department personnel to reduce overall accounts receivable.
  • Prepares appeals for denied and /or incomplete payments to collect delinquent accounts.
  • Responsible for lien notification to attorneys.
  • Works with patients to set up payment plans.
  • Assists physicians with determining appropriate codes for surgeries and procedures.

Here’s what makes for an ideal candidate:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Course work in accounting or medical records and general office experience preferred. 
  • A minimum of 2-5 years physician billing experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of medical accounts receivable systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of insurance fee schedules and EOB’s
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, HCPC & Modifiers’. 
  • High volume must be capable of responding to frequent priority changes and multiple deadlines. 
  • Team environment requires total participation by all members in problem solving and decision-making.
  • Must be able to work with a multitude of individuals from varying professions and non-professional backgrounds.
