The Sr. Data Engineer is responsible for leading and managing the design and maintenance of the SSIS/ETL environment and to provide expertise and support for any data projects. This position is responsible for identifying innovative approaches to completing data engineering projects in a rapid application development environment while maintaining overall reliability and integrity.
Essential Functions of the Job
Leads management of ETL platform and provides expert guidance to Leadership on initiatives related to Data Engineering.
Develops ETL Packages and manages SSIS Environment for Data Environment primarily using SSIS and other ETL tools.
Maintains, Monitors, and Documents all ETL processes and procedures with a focus of automating jobs to recover automatically or notify for additional support as needed.
Designs and maintains the SSIS environment.
Provide input, expertise, and support for data projects.
Creates and Develops SQL and provides support for Business Stakeholders.
Provides support and builds data extracts and imports for internal stake holders and Orion Clients.
Provides Subject Matter Expertise for Stakeholders for any Data Engineering related tasks and requests.
Builds reliable processes while also identifying process failures.
Resolves problems quickly and in an automated fashion.
Continually learns new technologies, especially within cloud technologies to help support the direction of the Application Development team.
Assists in Support of the Data Environment, providing On-Call Support, monitoring and troubleshoot for the Data Environment.
Provides insight to Data management team on new technologies and efficiencies that can be made for ETL processes and Data Flows.
Skills Needed to Perform the Job
Experience using a variety of ETL tools.
In-depth understanding of data management.
Knowledge of software development and user interface web applications.
Knowledge of SQL Server and AWS tools for troubleshooting and schema management.
Ability to understand end user requirements.
Knowledge of cloud services such as AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure.
Knowledge of data dictionary and database scripting, SQL development, unit testing, and systems administration on Microsoft products.
Knowledge of command-line or GUI administration tools to manage change control and monitoring of systems.
Ability to multi-task while maintaining careful attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team environment.
Ability to work with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines and address competing priorities.
Proficient skills with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Effective written, listening, and verbal communication skills.
Effective problem solving and organizational skills.
Education Needed to Perform the Job
Minimum of a bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field required. Masters in Data Science, MIS or related field Preferred.
Orion Industry Certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
Experience Needed to Perform the Job
Minimum of 5 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Agent and SQL Scripting required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Python, Powershell, R or other scripting languages.
Minimum of 5 years of experience working in SQL in either Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2/Informix, MySQL, or Postgres required.
Prior experience with database troubleshooting and failure resolution required.
Prior experience working with other ETL tools such as Informatica, AWS Glue, Azure Factory preferred.
Previous experience with life-cycle administration support including database design, database development, testing, deployment, and maintenance in Azure DevOps preferred.
Prior experience with database optimization and performance tuning preferred.
Prior experience with architecture, set up, and administration of MS SQL Server preferred.
