Job Description

This position is responsible for accounting and finance functions of the organization including managing day-to-day activities of the organization's general ledger; accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); efficient use of finance program tools; systems and software; and accurate and timely payroll filings and reports.  Responsibilities for this position also include ensuring compliance with the organization's accounting policies and procedures.  Participates in program and organization wide projects.  Supervises billing specialist.  This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

  • Keeps CFO apprised of day-to-day activites
  • In partnership with CFO, address, identifies and solves business issues
  • Assists in the preparation of financial support schedules as needed.
  • In partnership with CFO, prepares and distributes various monthly financial statements
  • Works closely with organization supervisory staff to answer questions and provide information and assistance



  • 1. Accounting Operations - Oversees or completes
  • Accurately maintain the general ledger; billing and collection for program services; financial reporting for grants as necessary; payroll; prepare account analyses, journal entries and reconciliations; work with all programs monitoring the collections and billing status; manage expense reporting system including the transfer of information to the GL
  • 2. Financial Reporting
  • Keep updated to proposed changes to policy and how they would affect the organization; prepares ad-hoc financial reports as requested; manage reporting deadlines, monthly close schedule, and ensure compliance with U.S GAAP including focus on completeness, accuracy, cutoff and classification
  • 3. Compliance
  • Plan, establish and maintain necessary working papers and supporting audit schedules in conjunction with the CFO; work closely with CFO to ensure payroll tax returns, W-2s and 1099's are processed accurately and timely; conduct quarterly time study required by Department of Human Services for shelter cost report; assist with preparation and necessary information for the annual financial audit.
  • 4. Supervisory
  • Supervises Billing Specialist. Provides coaching, training and day-to-day direction. Accountable for annual performance evaluations and identifying developmental opportunities as appropriate
  • 5. Other
  • Complete training necessary for position; promote a positive team and work environment; Participates in Performance Quality Improvement initiatives to assist the organization in meeting quality improvement priorities; other duties as assigned.
