We are looking for people who want to make a positive difference in the lives of young adolescents with behavioral/personality issues.  It is a great opportunity for recent college graduates or soon to be college graduates to build skills in the Social Services field and gain experience working with troubled youth.  This position has alot of direct contact with the youth in a daily living setting.  This position is first a role model and also a facilitator for daily activities.  Room for advancement on the youth worker career ladder.  Salary for our Youth Worker I’s is ($9.25-$10.00/hr) and for Youth Worker II’s ($9.50-$11.25/hr).  Promotion opportunities to Youth Worker III’s ($10.50-$12.25/hr).  Evaluated every 6 months.  Some Youth Workers have become Case Managers within our agency.  Great benefits package available for eligible employees.

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Become part of a team working with students in grrades 1-12 with emotional and behavioral difficulties in a unique school setting. The Academic Center serves students who require intensive individual support and are in need of a self-contained classroom. Emphasis is placed on developing the students' academic and behavioral skills to a degree where it is possible for the students to return to the referring school district.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Criminal Justice or other related field preferred. Two years of relevant experience and within one year of completion of degree may be considered in lieu of degree requirement. 
  • Knowledge of child care practices, human growth and development issues including an understanding of the range of treatment needed by the youth served.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Personal characteristics and experiential background that will provide appropriate care for children to win their respect, to guide them in their development, to manage a home for them effectively, and to participate in the overall treatment program designed for the students.   
  • Necessary stamina and temperament to work with children and youth (birth-18 years of age) who are experiencing crisis and/or emotional and/or behavior disorders.
  • Ability to be trained in basic skills in first aid and the identification of medical need.
  • Ability to provide appropriate care and supervision of youth at all times.
  • Ability to follow and consistently implement policies and procedures of the agency.
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
  • Valid drivers license with an insurable driving record.
  • If required and authorized to drive on agency business, must have automobile insurance that meets agency policy.
  • Ability to interact and work cooperatively and effectively with other personnel and students.
  • Ability to show sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the service population.
