A Day in the Life

The Patient Care Registered Nurse advances the mission of Planned Parenthood by providing expertise and support to patients using remote communication including phone, text, and video. In partnership with the Centralized Services Manager and Medication Program Manager, the Patient Care Registered Nurse (RN) responds to clinically oriented questions from established PPNCS patients and enhances the essential services provided in our health centers by delivering remote patient care before and after clinic appointments. The Patient Care RN assists with prior authorizations and dispenses medications by mail under remote clinical supervision. Patient Care RNs are advocates in implementing our mission “To affirm the right to reproductive and sexual health and freedom for all by providing excellent care, trusted education, and fierce advocacy

Work Schedule: This is a full time 40 hours a week hybrid role with in-person variable shifts 2-3 days/week at our St. Paul location, and in-person training between the hours of 8am-6pm. In addition to regular scheduled hours, you could be scheduled for on call rotation evenings and weekends. You do get paid for when you are on call. 

Responsibilities

This position will impact us with the following contributions:

  • Appropriately responding to medical questions and concerns of PPNCS patients, including patient education regarding various reproductive health topics, including family planning and abortion care.
  • Referring to appropriate community resources and/or Urgent care/Emergency Departments
  • Documenting patient calls, assessment, and information according to approved protocols including the PPNCS Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&G)
  • Managing clinical communications with patients regarding follow up for abnormal test results, providing patient education, and reminding patients of follow up recommendations
  • Utilizing approved RN Condition Specific Protocols and the PPNCS Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&G)
  • Responding to online “Ask a Nurse” portal questions from PPNCS patients
  • Managing phone & online birth control refill requests
  • Labeling and dispensing medications by mail under clinical supervision
  • Coordinating with product manufacturers to determine plan for products affected by a refrigerator temperature excursion at a PPNCS clinic
  • Completing IUC pre-assessment phone calls, including educating patients about the method and procedure, and reviewing pre-procedure instructions
  • Completing post procedure follow up phone calls, i.e. Colposcopy, IUC and implant insertion, Medical AB, Surgical AB
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned

The Ideal Candidate Brings:

  • Current RN licensure for the State of MN
  • CPR certification
  • Ability to obtain RN licensure in additional states within our affiliate as needed.
