Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)

Responsible for designing and maintaining an enterprise-wide storage area network system to include all storage management products, network-attached storage systems, secondary storage and fibre channel storage area network switches and their associated operating systems. Works with other functional infrastructure teams to ensure proper and reliable storage technology application. Works with a team that shares support for storage platforms.

Typical Duties

Performs research and implementation of storage area network related products including hardware and software.

Performs all procedures necessary to ensure the availability, data protection and reliability of information storage systems, including disaster recovery configurations.
Performs all storage area network administration to include array configuration, volume assignments and switch zoning.

Monitors storage related information systems. Implements modifications necessary to increase the capacity of the storage systems. Compiles records and reports concerning usage, performance, anomalies and maintenance. May advise on workflow plans, methods and procedures analysis. Analyzes the results of monitoring the system(s) and recommend changes to improve processing and utilization.

Monitors and responds to complex technical problems using a variety of hardware and software testing tools and techniques. Interfaces with storage vendors and support service groups and provides internal analysis and support to ensure proper system performance. Provides guidance and training for less experienced technicians.

Ensures documentation for the support of information technology processes and procedures are kept up to date.

Provides technical input to assist in development of project planning.

Provides off-hours support on a scheduled rotation.

Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.

Performs related duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor’s Degree in information systems, computer science or related technical field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically four years of additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a Bachelor’s degree. A minimum of two years additional directly related technical experience is required.)

Prior Job Experience
A minimum of five years of experience: in SAN attached storage systems administration; with centralized backup and recovery systems; in systems administration of one or more of the following: Windows, Unix, VMWare ESX or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of managing fibre channel storage area networks. Experience supporting Network Attached Storage subsystems, both for CIFS and NFS protocols. Experience supporting the storage and backup requirements unique to VMWare ESX clustered virtual infrastructures. Storage and backup experience supporting relational database technology, web environments and Internet protocol-based networks. Knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions and major vendors. High level understanding of storage replication solutions with emphasis on Dell EMC products. Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information regarding company information. Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment. No physical demands required. Available for periodic on-call responsibilities.
