Job Description

This position manages/coordinates the data (engineering drawings, documentation and materials certifications) and the data maintenance processes for relational databases and records retention systems used within the NNG pipeline facility and operational records department. This includes data from construction, ROW, legal regulatory, environmental, safety, purchasing, design, engineering, facility planning and operations (maps, drawings and records databases).

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
Acquires and analyzes design drawings, sketches and photographs in order to create or update a project to "asbuilt" status.

Provides record collection and analysis services for assigned projects to support the management of current and historical documentation, as well as adherence to relevant budgets, schedules, etc.

Supervises and provides technical guidance and delegates work responsibilities to the lesser-experienced personnel within the department. In addition, manages the activities of third party contractors (sometimes ranging from 1-25 personnel) relative to implementing documentation and/or providing update of engineering drawings.

Reviews and ensures that sound engineering/design principals are applied to all engineering drawings and other documents.

Coordinates and has accountability for commitment of manpower (company and contractor) resources within company guidelines as this relates to multiple projects.

Plans all aspects of assigned projects from operations and develops schedules based on priorities and time constraints. Reviews and updates reports and other information to monitor the project costs and makes recommendations to ensure costs remain within budget and on schedules. Reports status of projects to manager.

Make recommendations relative to technical improvements, manpower requirements, equipment requirements and personnel selection.

Reviews both capital and O&M completion packages, of facility projects, performed by operations or engineering & construction. To insure proper documentation has been completed properly and submitted to engineering records for the compliance to applicable state and federal regulations.

Verifies that all project documents are in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations governing business operations (DOT, FERC, OSHA, PSM, NNG, etc).

Performs audit activities on material specifications, design criteria, construction practices and performance standards to ensure compliance with original design concepts.

Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective completion of a project, including employee safety, budget administration, organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed for the project.

Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.

Design classes, handouts and presentations; then perform training of field operations, field administration, property accounting, engineering & construction personnel in the project completion process.

Indexes all engineering drawings and documents into document management system and monitors the accuracy of indexing values assigned to ensure proper retrieval and correct retention assignments.

Consults with users in the planning and implementation of computer systems and applications for "as-built" and document management.

Conducts research in order to recommend improvements or enhancements of system based on user needs.

Conducts or assists in training users as new and emerging technologies become available.

Provides research services and assistance in obtaining vital drawings and other documentation as requested by customers.

Participates in task groups, conferences and training sessions to streamline or re-engineer processes as needed.

Assists the emergency management team when necessary.

Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.


Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, or related field; or equivalent work experience.  (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree.)

A minimum of ten years of related experience in gas pipeline engineering construction, including supervisory experience.

Must have a working knowledge of the gas pipeline industry, plants and pipeline systems.  With an extensive background and knowledge of the NNG pipeline system including compressor stations, town border stations, interconnects and pipeline systems.

Must have an extensive background and knowledge in all phases of engineering design techniques, with extensive experience with and/or knowledge in engineering and operations related, codes, standards and procedures, i.e. (DOT, FERC, OSHA, NNG, etc.).

A strong analytical ability, detail oriented, accurate and sensitive to conflicting deadlines, with excellent interpersonal and human relation skills. Demonstrate good judgment in problem solving and decision-making, with ability to take action or commit oneself appropriately.

Must have an in-depth working knowledge and experience with computer aided design (AutoCAD) and the NNG’s document management system (FileNet), graphic imaging software applications and related hardware.

Must be able to effectively interface with external persons with differing priorities and needs and work in a team environment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.  Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks, issues and projects concurrently, with the ability to meet schedules and responsibilities set at higher management levels.

Knowledge of administrative functions applicable to NNG operations.

Excellent PC skills, including familiarity with Windows environment, must be proficient in Microsoft Office application.

Adept at working within NNG to create, enhance or implement new services and products.

Ability to remain continuously abreast of rapidly changing technical systems utilized internally and externally in the industry.

Ability to make periodic field trips to operations technical office facilities or other sites as required.
