Summer Intern on the External Management Platform
The Associate Summer Internship is an intensive 10-week program within external investment management, a team responsible for a broad set of asset classes including alternative assets, loans, equities and fixed income products.
The Intern will gain valuable experience in external management/outsourcing of portfolio management, including exposure to industry, company, financial, and market analysis in the context of an insurance company environment.
The Intern will benefit from exposure to investment due diligence, operational due diligence, outsourcing of portfolio investments, and investment risk management for both US and Japan operations.
The Intern will interact with Senior Management and will present their analytical project(s) to an audience of key stakeholders including Senior Management.

Our summer interns participate in a series of activities that provide the opportunity to learn about all areas of the firm, as well as on-the job training in portfolio management and surveillance. The Intern will be assigned projects in support of current business needs focusing on our external management practice, performance analytics, and analytical framework for the full 10 week period.
Job functional responsibilities include:
Assist with investment due diligence, manager selection, onboarding and oversight of external investment managers for asset class specific mandates.
Learn to compile detailed portfolio analysis on both the individual manager portfolio, strategy and aggregate portfolio levels
Exposure to full due diligence process of third party asset managers across a variety of strategies including fixed income, equities, and alternatives; includes Request for Proposal composition, on-site review, manager analysis and recommendation and portfolio analysis.
Prepare findings to be presented to various investment committees as requested.
Understand the underpinnings of the processes supporting the External Manager practice and Aflac's future capabilities to outsource investments.
With supervision, assist in comprehensive daily review of externally mandated portfolios, for which responsibility is assigned, aligned with the Investment Management Agreement, Investment Guidelines and service level standards codified in the external mandate.
Perform data-heavy research, validation, and review market data as it relates to external portfolio management and investment discussions. Work with GI colleagues and business partners to develop investment rationale and comprehensive documentation supporting new investment opportunities. Such documentation will address various lenses applicable to Aflac (e.g., Aflac's various constituents, internal operational requirements, internal management presentations and documentation).
Work with team to execute the External Manager process and the development of such process.
Provide applicable quantitative analytics as requested.
Prepare oral and written analyses and concepts to Head of External Management, Chief Investment Officer's, Senior Management and Committees as needed.
Ad hoc projects, analyses, and support to external management team.
The program offers various learning opportunities including presentations by senior management, business leaders, plus networking events with mentors, business sponsors, senior management and full time employees.
