 Summary:

 

Seeking attorney to provide legal services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking including assistance with divorce, custody, child support, protection orders, humanitarian-based immigration relief, and other legal issues.

 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Attend court and represent clients.
  • Draft and file legal documents
  • Conduct legal interviews.
  • Provide legal advice regarding protection orders, restraining orders, and emergency custody matters.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to outside agencies.
  • Research legal issues as needed.
  • Record all case data and facts into a computerized case management system.
  • Consult with pro se clients at Self-Help Workshop and Walk-in Consultation Day Programs.
  • Assist with development of pro se legal education materials.
  • Review referrals for legal services to determine client eligibility for services.
  • Support development of Legal Department.
  • Provide outreach regarding WCA clients and services.
  • Attending continuing education classes/seminars.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

 Education/Experience:

 

Juris doctor (JD) degree and license to practice law in the state of Nebraska are required; 3+ years’ experience in family law and immigration law cases; and previous experience representing clients, including clients whose primary language is not English. WCA also strongly values the personal, lived experience of individuals from all backgrounds.

 

 Qualifications:

 

  • Understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking issues.
  • Ability to work with a diverse client population and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Good working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet and database programs.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required.
  • Responsible for providing own transportation to meet with clients and other community providers.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule.
  • Maintain confidentiality standards of the organization and in accordance with HIPPA standards.
  • Commitment to the mission of the Women’s Center for Advancement.
  • Strong preference will be given to applicants who are bi-lingual

The employee will be in a normal office environment while performing the duties of this job and will be required to sit, stand, walk and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. In addition, employee will be required to drive to other locations and carry presentation materials to conduct company business.
