Job Purpose:

If you are looking for a place where you can make a difference in the life of a child, Project Harmony is looking for you.  We are seeking an experienced and committed Accountant to join our dynamic and innovative organization.

The Accountant will be responsible for preparing accurate and timely financial information and working closely with the Finance Team in the review and analysis of this information.  This position will be tasked with month-end financial statement processing and monthly grant tracking, allocation and reporting.  The Accountant will support and review the work of the Accounting Specialist, work directly with the Director of Finance and collaborate with program and agency leaders.  The Accountant will ensure that financial statements, budgets and projections are readily available, accurate and communicated to stakeholders as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Accounting Specialist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes to ensure timely posting of all transactions.
  • Assist in preparing journal entries and cost allocations for posting to the general ledger to ensure financial statements are accurately presented.
  • Reconcile bank accounts monthly.
  • Reconcile and prepare financial support for general ledger accounts and recommend adjustments where necessary; assist in identifying trends in account activity and financial presentations.
  • Manage timely month-end procedures for processing accurate financial information.
  • Review payroll period reports and oversee payroll transactions.
  • Assist the Director of Finance to prepare for the annual financial audit process and work with the independent auditors.
  • Assist in the review of audit recommendations and add new internal control procedures where necessary.
  • Track grant budgets, set up cost allocations and prepare grant financial reports monthly.
  • Assist in the agency’s annual budgeting process and in preparation of forecasts and projections.
  • Assist in financial policy updates for the agency that reflect best practices in the field.
  • Keep current on accounting and auditing standards.
  • Maintain technical knowledge and acquire new accounting skills to ensure Project Harmony is fully adhering to non-profit and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, as needed, to maximize the quality of work within the duties and responsibilities listed.
  • Assist in the reporting of financial information to the Board of Directors, Board of Directors Audit and Finance Committee and Project Harmony Executive Team.
  • Ensure culturally competent services are provided without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
  • Assist in evaluating accounting software packages.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Education and Training:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, with a major in Accounting, is required.

Work Experience:

The successful candidate must possess a minimum of three to five (3-5) years of accounting experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail to reduce the amount of accounting corrections required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize how financial data should be processed and organized based on the audience.
  • Solid knowledge of fiscal management systems.
  • Excellent analytical skills in order to provide feedback on more efficient ways to track or report financial data and assess the reporting needs of each program area.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and active listening).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and relevant experience with accounting software with modular and batch processing platforms.
  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with co-workers, vendors, donors and business partners.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional work ethic.\
  • Must respect and maintain confidentiality.

Other:

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours.
  • Must submit to a thorough criminal history background check.
  • Must possess the ability to pass a fingerprint clearance.
  • Must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Position may involve some travel, primarily within the state.
