Scope of Job

The Risk Monitoring & Response team stands at the forefront of loss prevention and risk mitigation across First Data merchant acquiring. The team evaluates transactional and technical attributes to identify anomalous processing activity, investigate root cause and help lead mitigation efforts. Each analyst maintains an active case load and is empowered to make critical decisions that help guide the risk posture of the company. Highly qualified candidates should be able to evaluate diverse information sources including historical processing data, financial transactions, external source information, and interviews, to quickly and effectively make nuanced risk decisions. Analysts are expected to work in a highly collaborative and fluid environment, regularly working closely with internal partners in technology, sales and customer support or external partners from law enforcement to resolve issues and prevent fraud.


Job Responsibilities

  • Review and investigate merchant account transactional activity in order to evaluate financial risk exposures arising from potential credit and/or fraud risks, primarily related to small to medium sized business clients.
  • Use independent judgement and critical thinking in order to make informed real-time decisions to mitigate risk through securing funds, negotiating collateral requirements, or exiting fraudulent and excessive risk accounts.
  • Perform research using internal First Data systems, industry leading external resources, and interviews.
  • Evaluate technical information regarding the source and nature of transactional activity and access to aid in the identification and mitigation of risk.
  • Interface regularly with clients, merchants, and bank partners to effectively manage risk with professionalism, integrity and empathy.
  • Coordinate risk mitigation efforts with internal and external partners to ensure appropriate response.
  • Manage inquiries related to accounts under review via email and inbound telephone calls.
  • Work with external resources and leverage advanced technology to improve detection effectiveness in response and prevention solutions
  • Present findings, highlight de-risking opportunities and identify risk assessment improvement options to team members, stakeholders and senior management


Job Requirements

  • Bachelors in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field, 2-4 years of professional work experience or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, great quality of work, ability to produce clear, concise work products.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills needed to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of risk management with financial investigations experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with partners and clients in high pressure scenarios.
  • Comfort leveraging technology and learning new state of the art risk systems and solutions.
  • Capability to prioritize and manage time effectively to ensure appropriate attention to critical investigative responsibilities while balancing client impact.
